The first of an eight-day series of blessings inspired by Br. David's book "99 Blessings: An Invitation to Life." Welcome to our practice. Let's begin. We invite you to close your eyes and take one or two slow, deep breaths. Then open your eyes and simply take in this blessing...
SOURCE OF ALL BLESSINGS,
you bless us with breath.
In and out, in and out, ever
renewing us, ever anew making us
one with all who breathe the same
air, may this blessing overflow
into a shared gratefulness, so that
with one breath I may praise and
Sense how it feels to honor our life-giving breath. When we allow ourselves to appreciate that which quietly and generously supports our lives, along with the fact that we join all living, breathing beings on the planet as recipients of this gift, we can cultivate a profound sense of gratitude and belonging.
“May this patchwork quilt of blessings help to sharpen your taste for the gift of life in its innumerable facets,” Br. David writes. “May you grow ever more blessed, ever more able to bless.”

Love the work.
Thank you Joanders and thank you for being part of our community!
on my ankle in beautiful script is the “word” breathe, along with a beautiful lotus….and my breath is like the chemical in the lotus that cleans it of the mud every morning when it rises…my breath cleanses me every morning as I rise and often throughout the day when i pay attention to it!
Being breathed, pure gift
In continuous flow for
which I do nothing.
During my meditation yesterday the teacher reminded us that part of beginning again was a willingness to sense everything anew. “Even Breathing” she added.
The synchronicity of this first blessing touched me deeply. I am recovering from lung cancer. My left lung was removed and I am so aware of the miracle of breathing and how I took it for granted. With one breath I truly can “ cultivate a sense gratitude and belonging “ and connectedness with all .
Dear Linda, thank you so much for sharing your sense of gratitude, belonging and connectedness. The three are so important for our well-being, and they are a privilege and a blessing that no one can take away from us. May I be joined with you in sharing the miracle and the joy of breathing. I hope it contributes to an overriding sense of inner peace in your life.
Thank you soo much! We are all connected.
Dear Linda, sending you healing thoughts, prayers and blessings as you recover from your lung cancer.🌷
How thoughtful Sheila! Thank you am moving forward. Am cancer free after the lung was removed! What a blessing you are!💕
And what a blessing you are for sharing your healing story. I feel ever so happy for you Linda!
Thank you for the blessing of your concern.
The process of closing one’s eyes, taking slow deep breaths and patiently releasing them into the atmosphere immediately clears the clutter of the mind as the heart and soul reinvents a new day filled with hope, peace, calm, love, compassion, and positive energy! This, as a result of immediate inner gratefulness!
As soon as I saw the picture with today’s blessing, I felt tears welling up inside. I realise how isolated I’ve become in my situation, and am so grateful to be reminded that there are millions of others out there, including the beautiful people on this site, who can empathise and support, so that there is never the need to suffer alone. May each breath we take be full of peace, love and hope.
I woke up so grateful for another breath! I have so much to be thankful for. A new life shall be joining us in a month or so and I am so Blessed that number 3 Great Grandson shall call me Grammy!! Life is ever so sweet and may God bless me with many more breaths!!
I got to thinking about all the places the air I breathe has been. In and out of lots of people of all nationalities and stations in life. Animals. Even the plants around the world. Whereas rocks and ground don’t breathe, what about the dust the wind picks up, some of which I breathe in; where did that come from on our planet? And I realized how deeply connected I am to the whole world through this one simple thing that sustains my life — air.
Thank you for offering the opportunity to stop, reflect, and be grateful.
Thank you for softening my heart and reminding me that “I am.”
Beautiful beginning to our eight day practice, grounding in the fundamentals of the breath. May I focus on ‘making us
one with all who breathe the same air’. In this world of seemingly constant tumult, the hope is my quiet sit and focus on the breath can indeed make a difference.
The photograph, the dandelion, seeds on the wind, golden light, soft blue, reminds me of today’s sunrise. How often I become aware of my shallow breath. Then, taking in a slow deep breath, clearing the stuffiness of thought I am in a fresh wakefulness. To breath with the all of life, to breath at all, a blessing. My gratitude is remembering to breath deep today!
I have tears in my eyes reading this. It makes me think how God never forgets and is constantly giving me life-renewing breath. Yet, how often I forget and am not aware of ‘my’ breath. Thank-you for this beautiful blessing and reminder! Thank-you God, thank-you Br. David and all at gratefulness.org!!!
With a grateful heart, Sheila 💖☮

Holy Earth, Holy Cosmos, I bow before you With my whole being. Holy Creatures, Holy…
