The love from my partner Karen is truly unconditional and a rare gift. We are all deserving of this gift of love that abounds and surrounds us, if we can simply open our hearts and spread this healing balm of love over our wounded hearts. Thank you my love, I am eternally grateful for your love 💕

Whose enduring love do I carry with me?

“Love” is a four letter word and it can mean so many different things to different people but I find the word “endurance, totally ” relatable. Many people who graced my life have taught me the importance of endurance. They have also taught me the need for self-love and acceptance and have inspired me to carry on when it seemed impossible to do so. My spiritual director of 27 years comes to mind. The friend who took me in when I had no where to go holds a special spot in my heart. The son who is caring for me in the winter of my life. I also think of my ancestors who traveled across the Atlantic Ocean to settle in the U.S. Some came without a penny in their pockets, looking for a better life for their children. And, I think of the enduring love of so many who I have only met on the written page.

This question reminded me of a poem I wrote several years ago. I share what I call the Hip-Hop version. It should offer you a chuckle and maybe even some food for thought!

Love is a word in Hip Hop Oct 09
    By Carol Ann Conner

Love is a word. We say it a lot.
misuse it, abuse it, forsake it for naught.

It’s sometimes a verb with feelings deferred.
We love this, love that, it’s frankly absurd.

It’s often a noun, subjective in sound
objective in speech, a wailing, a screech for attention.

It can be a farce, filled with remorse,
    love-feast, love-sick, love affair, divorce.

But when cupid’s dart touches my heart,
it lovingly starts a revolution of sorts.

But, true love’s illusive, inclusive and rare,
deliberate, decisive, egoistically-bare to the bone

Yes, love is a word that we need make flesh
a vulnerable stance, a powerful chance to make a difference.

I am fortunate to say, the unconditional love
that my mother had for me, is something
that I do carry with me. Of course, the
the relationship was complicated by her
own suffering. But, her faith and trust in
me was always solid, if not a little misplaced.
I hope you al have a peaceful Sunday.

My elders, especially my great grandmother Jewel, my grandma Mamie, and my Grandma Gloria. All have passed on, but the love they gave and still give are a part of me. And then there’s Buddy the Wonder Cat and BC the Cat, both of whom were soul kitties of mine. I’m sure that Buddy sent me BC when he had to move on out of that little body. And those that are still living – my mom and dad, my husband, and our dogs, Ruger & Reese.

My dad, my mum, my husband, God who has forgiven me numerous times and is still teaching me to be a better version of myself, my son who may not always show it the way a typical 23 year old boy won’t show it, my Godmother who prayed for me relentlessly when I was sick as a kid, my Grandma who said she would not die until I was fully well.

I’m committing to a longer Sunday contemplative morning practice. As I reflect on this question in the sanctuary I’ve dedicated to The Divine Mother, I have to say Divine Mother is with me always. Over the last few weeks I’ve been deeply held and my prayer time stays with me most of the day. I also carry the love of my earth mother, I’m so fortunate we’re close and she lives a few minutes away. She’s 77 and still takes care of me. I’m so blessed.

The love of my Grandmothers and my Grandpa, in particular. I come from a large Irish Catholic family, and couldn’t count the amount of grace, joy, and perhaps hilarity that I have been blessed with throughout these many years. In the present day, I would add my wonderful daughters and their partners, all so very kind to me.
