I was a single mom juggling work and school and trying to have a social life. I did not balance it well, and our household suffered in the process. Recently, I came to find out (because the adults in the situation did not proactively inform me) that my daughter’s father and stepmother kicked her out of the house. She is living with a friend. After not hearing my daughter’s voice for 2+ years, she called and explained the situation. Some of it was teen angst, but some was as hurtful as my daughter had expressed. She respectfully asked that I not cut off my financial support of her, which I will not do knowing that she has a full college workload along with 3 PT jobs to support herself as best she can. In the course of the conversation, she also said she’s not ready “right now” to mend (our) fences. I expressed that I understand how overwhelmed she is as I took similar steps in my life at that age. I am giving her the space (compassion) she wants to stumble through this first stage of life on her own and until she is ready to have an open heart conversation. I am providing that space as best I can. 3 Reply Linda1 year agoLindaOur poor, divided country needs my compassion. Never thought I would see this kind of divisiveness today, in my own country. I have much more compassion for the countries of the world who have experienced, or continue to experience this kind of ugliness. 3 Reply Pollyanna Gladwell1 year agoPollyanna GladwellThe people of the USA need my compassion right now. I have been having a lot of critical thoughts about not doing enough or being good enough. I guess we call these thoughts rumination. I want to show myself compassion because if I can’t do that than how can I show others compassion? This idea of perfection is a slippery slope, it’s down right dangerous. Even when walking in the foothills a gentle wave of the hand or a nod of my head means a lot when we are all wearing masks. I touch a tree branch for comfort as I need compassion right now. The election is the big white elephant in my room. I am so concerned about who will win. Even when I know this too shall pass. 5 Reply Javier Visionquest1 year agoJavier VisionquestWe had a big turnout at the Halloween/Samhain/Blue Moon drum jam on Saturday. And there is a very good reason. Feels very selfish to say, but I think it’s a start within and let it radiate out kind of thing. 6 Reply Ed Schulte1 year agoEd SchulteALL. ( Unconditionally ) 6 Reply Papilio1 year agoPapilioAlthough I agree that everyone needs compassion right now, in-person interaction in my life is very limited. Yes, my first step is to be kind to myself, my husband & our dog. What else could I do to show my compassion? I’ll send note cards to those who are living by themselves. I used to visit them, but now so many rules don’t allow me to do so. 5 Reply Patricia1 year agoPatriciaThanks to all of you who have written so far today. It helps to know that you are all thinking and praying and doing your best to be compassionate in your own situations and in this global situation we all share. My husband and I woke up this morning both wondering and anxious … and we need to be compassionate toward ourselves as we enter this week and beyond… we will also be compassionate toward our brother & sister citizens… and pray. Just pray. (Oh, and VOTE!) 6 Reply kimthompsen1 year agokimthompsenI need to start with myself. If I don’t have it for myself, I cannot give it to others.
