Who is an example of true humility?

    I was proud of my husband today. He felt certain that the crew that mows our lawn, and has been doing some extra landscaping for us, had not done the extra landscaping last week. So he called the owner of the company and told him so. The owner was not pleased and said they had done the work. Later when my husband realized that he was wrong, he called the owner, told him he had been wrong, and apologized. Those two little words, “I’m sorry,” can make all the difference in the world in hea...

Later when my husband realized that he was wrong, he called the owner, told him he had been wrong, and apologized. Those two little words, “I’m sorry,” can make all the difference in the world in healing relationships. I’m grateful that I have a husband who will own up to his mistakes when he has been wrong.
    I’m grateful that he will say I’m sorry when he has been wrong. ♥️

    Humility to me is admitting when you’re wrong and then fixing your mistakes. People have so much pride in this world that when they do something they won’t admit to it. Instead they would prefer to blame everyone else for what happened in their life and play the victim instead of saying “Okay I am sorry” or “I messed up”. Humility is about taking the lower seat at times and it’s okay to take the lower seat.

    Saint Francis of Assisi comes to mind. Humility expressed so beautifully and deeply touching in his Canticle of the Sun, the Praise of the creatures. His Love for all living beings, all creation and especially the animals is what is present until today and is humbly shining fully alive, as if he would stand right aside us, with the birds visiting his loving hand whenever he appears in our consciousness.     our rivers. They give us water to drink and are watering our gardens. To wash ourselves they give us their water. and take all the dirt. they don’t ask for anything, don’t stick to anything and go their way. Also our mother earth. she feeds us all, no matter who we are and though we take more than we need. She is always giving humbly. .

    “True Humility” is an interesting term. I guess I would say that anyone who is willing instead of willful, lives from the soul not the ego, is expressing humility. The evolutionary path for us as a species is not a straight line. It is a spiral and so we trudge. “Truth” is a tricky word. I can’t speak for others but for me, it has changed over the years.     I had a cousin with whom I reconnected shortly before she passed away. She is one of the few people I’ve known who lived without an agenda. Clear-eyed about both her mistakes and her gifts. She enjoyed helping but did so in the background, not out of modesty but because that’s where her gifts lay.

    I wonder though if any one person could ever be a true and perfect example of humility. Because oftentimes when we have those rare moments to really hear, or feel, the inner workings of someone we admire, we’re given glimpses of where they too struggle, where their demons, doubts, and regrets reside within. And yet, we love them all the more for it, and I hope we always will.

    Yielding completely to this Life. Not trying to control or do anything. Just a complete openness to the moment-to-moment unfolding. At its smallest, it might be feeling the bodily sensation around the heart with the breath. It might be expanded to being with the immediate environment. Perhaps after that, just being with this Life experience however it is showing up. How humbling is that?
