It was and is deep joy to be together in this way. Although it may be hardship sometimes, I can clearly perceive it as being confronted with a sincere heart nevertheless. It is deep joy to be together in this way, and my deep gratefulness for their being with me and with all is with them and will always be. Read More3 Reply Tom1 year agoTomMy wife. He lives sincerely and he has the strongest moral fiber of anyone I know. I always say that if that our son turns out to be even 50% of what his father is, it will be amazing. 7 Reply 1 year agoI love the expression ‘moral fiber’, I haven’t heard it before… I am so happy for you that you share a life with a person like this, integrity in action is amazing ??. for your son I hope he has enough space and encouragement to go his own way and that he is appreciated and supported in his unique unfolding ? 5 Reply Journey1 year agoJourneyThank you Verena. Unique unfolding is such a lovely term and one I have not heard before :-). I love how much we learn from each other on this wonderful site and space. 6 Reply 1 year agoI raised my children with a sense of curiosity, who they might be, who they would become. and although I failed in many ways in educating them, I think I could uphold a space of attentiveness rather than expectation. it’s kind of like growing a plant, and you don’t know how the flower will be, the shape, the color, when it will bloom, what fruit it will bear….many suprises were presented to me through this approach, most of them heartwarming …and they grew into responsible young men,...I raised my children with a sense of curiosity, who they might be, who they would become. and although I failed in many ways in educating them, I think I could uphold a space of attentiveness rather than expectation. it’s kind of like growing a plant, and you don’t know how the flower will be, the shape, the color, when it will bloom, what fruit it will bear….many suprises were presented to me through this approach, most of them heartwarming …and they grew into responsible young men, both very different from each other, and each uniquely beautiful Read More4 Reply Journey1 year agoJourneyOMG Verena, that is just so beautifully put. Although their marriage is unconventional they remain committed to each other, they work diligently toward shared goals, and have built a beautiful life together in their retirement and still manage to play, have fun, and approach life with humor and compassion. 7 Reply 1 year agowhat you write is inspiring…. and one thing came up while reading: I wonder if there is anybody who would say their relationship is conventional… or if we all feel a uniqueness towards our partners and the way we relate to each other? 4 Reply Javier Visionquest1 year agoJavier VisionquestI’m glad to see that attitudes toward gay and lesbian couples (what I meant by unconventional) are relaxing in general but there are still significant barriers in some families. Life is difficult enough without the people one loves judging them for who they love, as if it’s anyone else’ business 3 Reply Antoinette1 year agoAntoinettePema Chodron is a model of success.
