Being kind to others has been my priority ever since. Being kind can require bravery, as it can invite judgment, abuse, ridicule, and rejection. Being the first to smile or say good morning to someone is an act of bravery. 2 Reply mam_gigi4 months agomam_gigiI think I notice it at church, work, gym, anywhere really. When I pay attention, I see people stopping to let you out in traffic, or people pointing out when you’ve dropped something, or people smiling and complimenting you. Kindness is just as common as any other trait, you just have to look for it and focus on it, instead of something negative. 1 Reply Don Jones4 months agoDon JonesAny time I cared to look. It is always there. 2 Reply Kylee4 months agoKyleeI see this all the time in the simplest of forms ….a smile.😀 My favorite memory of this is when I was a server. One gentleman paid it forward and the table he paid for, paid it forward. This happened 7 or 8 times in a row. No one told them they had to continue it but they were moved to and it was an amazing story and a day I will remember forever. 3 Reply Hot Sauce4 months agoHot SauceA few years ago, in the advanced choir at the university I went to, we had a student whose mother died, a student whose friend died, and the professor whose dad died-all in the same semester. While these losses were sad, the amazing compassion everyone showed spread like wildfire, and we grew closer to each other because of these losses. 1 Reply KC4 months agoKCI notice this many days, when / as I am awake and open to see this. When I am struggling to face a moment or day, it is often kindness that pulls me out into relationship and the world. When I step out of my home to walk, it is generally within five minutes or less that I am aware of how contagious kindness is. And yes, similarly, when I or another person are attending to the other wolf, a different energy is felt and shared… 2 Reply Vickie4 months agoVickieKindness is contagious when people allow themselves to accept and feel it deeply. The comfort it can bring makes us want to spread it. 1 Reply Hermann-Josef4 months agoHermann-JosefFortunately I can notice it every day. Either the other one is the first of us both, or it is me who shows kindness first. Why not. It is not expensive 4 Reply Kylie Watson4 months agoKylie WatsonI notice that kindness is contagious through simple acts such as a smile or compliment. When someone compliments me, it puts me in a better mood and I then decide to compliment someone. I think being a kind human can make all the difference and spread positivity. 2 Reply alara4 months agoalaraThis past winter, thousands upon thousands all across Canada came out to support truckers because they cared and wanted to help. 2 Reply Dusty Su4 months agoDusty SuI’d say there hardly has been a day of my life in which I have not seen this as a reality. Some days more than others. Some days I am the pourer or perfume, other days the receiver, and on many a bit of both. If I do not see it firsthand, I read about it, watch it in movies. I see the opposite too of when hatred is contagious. Yet I believe that love and kindness overcome always. More than ideals, reality as a personal experience. 2 Reply carol4 months agocarolhmm- kindness as a contagion-- the question in my mind, after reflection on experiences, have I become kinder after some kindness was extended to me and/or when I have witnessed kindness? Thank you. 2 Reply Carla4 months agoCarlaI went grocery shopping Sunday to a particular store that requires a 25 cent deposit on the grocery cart. I watched a handful of us pass our empty carts on to others never taking the next deposit.. it touched me. 3 Reply sparrow4 months agosparrowIt is possible, dear Carla, that I shop at the same grocery store chain as you… I have also noticed in that store, that people in the check out line very often let others with just a few things go ahead of them. 3 Reply Carla4 months agoCarlaSparrow, I think we do!🤗 1 Reply Mary Pat4 months agoMary PatIt depends on the people and what they are focused on. I have noticed that during the pandemic, people who had trouble dealing with life when it wasn’t what they wanted became aggressive and very mean spirited. And on the other side I saw people go beyond what they would ordinarily do for someone else and extend themselves for others in tremendous acts of kindness. Using another popular saying, it depends on which wolf you are feeding….. 5 Reply Patricia4 months agoPatriciaKindness is a seed which always has the potential to germinate and grow. 6 Reply EJP4 months agoEJPKindness is always contagious…it’s an amazing feeling! 3 Reply sunnypatti4 months agosunnypattiKindness is contagious anytime it is witnessed, for how could one not feel that energy when they see it? Every time I notice kindness, I am filled with it, and I am fortunate to get to see it happen all the time. 5 Reply Kevin4 months agoKevinFor decades, I have observed kindness being contagious while working among children. Regarding kindness, these two quotes were prominently displayed in my office and group room over the years: My religion is very simple – my religion is kindness. –The Dalai Lama Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love. – Lao-tzu 9 Reply Michele4 months agoMicheleAll the time… Random Acts of Kindness, pay it forward. Seeing it happen makes me smile and is a joy to witness. When my son and I did that 5K, I witnessed some stranger hand off a bag of food to a homeless person – that brought tears to my eyes. 3 Reply Iamme4 months agoIammeIn many ways the pandemic brought out the best in people, they became kinder. My residential road, which was already a friendly place to live with people looking out for each other, started a whatsapp group so that we could connect instantly if we required help. I actually had covid just at the start of our lockdown which due to the quarantine rules, meant no one in my household could leave the house to get provisions, so neighbours brought us shopping which was lovely, the group still exists and people are even more friendly and caring than they were before! In my town a Facebook support group sprang up and an army of volunteers were shopping for the elderly and vulnerable unable to leave their homes, leafleting homes with a contact number for help, to reach those not on the internet. The activation of this help was almost instant compared to the weeks and weeks it took our local council to start offering support. The kindness felt as contagious as the pandemic. But sadly not all were infected with kindness, I also witnessed some appalling behaviour by a tiny minority, but I tried to be kind in my thoughts, and attributing their behaviour to fear, stress or hardship. I was incredibly lucky during our lockdowns, we still had money coming in because my husband continued running his engineering workshop – he was making parts for ventilators. We have a comfortable home and a small garden to sit in. Others had lost their jobs, had little to no money, were trapped in small flats with fractious children and little food, some perhaps trapped at home with an abuser. I was very aware that my lockdown was very different to many others. Generally though, I do think people became kinder during the pandemic, Covid generated a pandemic of kindness.
