It could be a few birds chirping, the sounds of leaves tumbling in the street, a soft rain or the sound of the ocean waves. All of nature is inspiring to me. 0 Reply LeanIn1 year agoLeanInMusic inspires me – especially guitar and piano. The sounds of nature nourish me – bird songs and soothing waterfalls or waves. 2 Reply Malag1 year agoMalagMy dog sighing as he naps. The crackle of a fire. My children laughing. The coo of a woodpigeon on an early summer morn. Waves against the sea shore. 3 Reply Mike1 year agoMikeDistant railroad trains and their whistles. The signal blasts of large ships in harbors, leaving or approaching their docks. The press of voices on crowded city streets. And, on the other end of the scale, wind across water, waves on the shore, birds of all kinds, and puppies at naptime. All this and more when I am paying enough attention to notice them, which isn’t always. 4 Reply Michele1 year agoMicheleI, too, like the sound of the railroad train and whistles – because I LOVE Harry Potter, I always image its Hogwarts Express passing by. 1 Reply Kristi1 year agoKristiThe sound of water (waves, rivers, waterfalls, etc) and the sound of birds. Nature sounds refresh and refocus me! 3 Reply Hot Sauce1 year agoHot SauceI love the sound of chirping birds! When I hear beautiful sounds like that, our own human affairs seem to matter less. 3 Reply Magee1 year agoMageeOcean waves, lake water lapping on the shoreline, whole-hearted laughter, these sounds soothe me. I also love the whooshing sound of coffee percolating, a memory from childhood summer Sunday mornings, when I was surrounded by grown-ups who behaved admirably. 3 Reply sb1 year agosbwater is really important to me - I could listen to the sea all day - soothing, inspiring, healing...Even the little fountain in our pond has much the same effect. Birdsong, too - especially when they sound happy and hopeful and bring joy and the promise of something better to come. And music. I love Taize like someone mentioned below, classical music, ballads, dance music...just about anything. There is always some music that hits the spot that's needed at the time! Many years ago I walked into the mid-day service in the large, simple worship space in Taize, France. A random gathering of people were sitting on bleachers singing ‘In the Lord I’ll be ever thankful’ it was a magical cacophony. 3 Reply Ose1 year agoOseKoshi windchimes! 3 Reply Cathie1 year agoCathieThe silence walking through an ancient forest or jungle and then only the sounds your feet make as you wander, the ocean sounds – waves, birds, splashing noises, some music/songs/chanting that I like, wind chimes, leaves rustling, and wind sounds. And probably more that I am not recalling. 3 Reply Lisa-Anne Erickson1 year agoLisa-Anne EricksonBird song ……. 3 Reply John Tamminga1 year agoJohn TammingaAll previous mentioned plus many music instruments and voices including the cello, Native American flute and sacred music. 2 Reply Lauryn1 year agoLaurynBirds chirping outside. Really any sort of nature sounds — I listen to recordings sometimes when I’m trying to focus at work. 3 Reply Butterfly1 year agoButterflyBirdsong 4 Reply Mike1 year agoMikeReading this entire litany of responses is a meditation in itself, evoking all the sounds as I read through them. I would have listed so many of them myself, but was especially glad to be surprised with those I had not thought of. I would add sacred harp singing to what has been mentioned. I’ve been part of such a gathering once. I believe I’ll return to this day’s responses from time to time for the reflection it evokes. 6 Reply Sarah1 year agoSarahThe movement of air and wind outside. 5 Reply Emily1 year agoEmilyThe sounds that inspire and nourish me are the sounds of birds chirping. Birds chirping is music to my ears. The sound of Waterfalls also inspire and nourish me and so does the sound of rain falling on the roof. Leaves crunching under my feet also inspires and nourishes me. I guess you could say the sounds you here when you get out into nature and the great outdoors is what inspires and nourishes me and I wouldn’t have it any other way. 7 Reply pkr1 year agopkrBirds singing, chirping first thing in the morning as a new day begins. Song has always been my biggest comfort. The sounds of voices blending or the purity of a solo voice. 6 Reply 1 2 3 Next » My Private Gratitude Journal Write an entry in your private gratefulness journal Get Started This site is brought to you by A Network for Grateful Living, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
