Grace is a gift of love that invites us into relationship with God.

I speak of Grace in the spiritual sense
    as
the most glorious pinnacle of transcendental joy
balanced by the most wrenching heartbreak that can be imagined,
    all in the same moment..
I often feel it shining on me in the midst of tragedy,
lifting me up and holding me close.
    Something so profound
it almost knocks me off my feet.

    In more ordinary terms,
    looking back,
It has been carrying me through my whole life.
    I must trust that Grace
    will continue holding me
to the end of my life,
and then I will see the bigger picture.
It is a ‘thing’ so profound
that I can find no better words . . .

I look at grace more in its verb form. To grace someone’s life by providing compassion, love and support.

Grace is not to be described, but to be experienced.

    Grace just is.

I use this word in talking about how I want to interact with others: “Leave them space and grace in which to grow in understanding.” By this I mean that I can think they’re fixed in their ways and therefore limited, or I can remember that we’re all evolving, all the time. Trying to push someone toward a particular insight is like telling a flower to grow faster. Grace is that ability to step back, to allow, to breathe and wait.

I like your perspective Barb, especially the last line.

    I don’t have a religious orientation, so
the word grace doesn’t resonate with
me that way. Which is funny, because
I do enjoy singing and playing the song
“Amazing Grace”. When I think of grace
that way, I think of a cosmic or karmic
alignment of good fortune. I am more
    inclined to think about movement.
People and animals and the things that
move gracefully. Or in the bigger sense,
of moving through life gracefully. I like that.
Moving through life smoothly, with ease,
    and without friction. Moving through
    life with grace.
Thank you for this. I will carry this with
me as I attempt to embrace grace.

I was raised in a religious dogma that taught me that grace had to be earned. Thankfully, experience has taught me that is not the case. For me Life is trustworthy and grace abounds. My job is willingness. I share a poem that I wrote in 1995 when I was literally at the bottom of the barrel and all hope seemed gone. I shared it before but for me it is the definition of the gift and the power of “grace.” “Grace” permeates every situation but I have to be willing to claim it. Life/God is always offering me the opportunity to evolve, saying “Can you hear me NOW?” Creation, both personal and universal, is and always has been about evolution.

Wings of Willingness by Carol Ann Conner (1995)

(“You too can fly. But that cocoon must go!” Anonymous)

The Butterfly awakens inside the cocoon – TRAPPED.
Her wings embedded in her sides – CHAINED.
Her mind is reeling – AFRAID.

Every circumstance says she can’t move.
She bargains; she pleads. But at last, she lets go.
The power of surrender surges through her.

Little by little, the darkness begins to fade into light.
    She’s learning to trust.
At last, she’s embracing true freedom.

    Her prison begins to crumble.
    Her wings begin to spread.
    SHE FLIES!

Some of us build cocoons from the inside out,
And the only way to shed them is to let go.
No amount of digging, scratching, or pushing can remove them.

Only letting God send those who can comfort and guide,
Only letting God peel off one layer at a time will constitute real change.
Transformation is God’s/Life’s business. Willingness is mine.

When I can truly let God be God,
My wings will spread and I will discover that
I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ABLE TO FLY!

Grace is the ultimate love. It’s what we’re born with and is always there for us, even if we forget it is. Grace is there to pick us up when we fall and does so without any judgement.

A blessing for the life sustaining meal one is about to partake. The manner in which some people carry themselves. A period between a late payment of a debt before additional charges are incurred. Some folks dance with grace…they are known to dance gracefully. The word can be spoken with many meanings.

I love this meaning of grace from Alan Cohen’s book, “A Course in Miracles made easy”, “Grace is the state of being in which we are loved unconditionally and all that we need is provided for us by the benevolent hand of God”. May everyone have a peaceful day. 💖🧘‍♀️🌈
