I turn mostly to my faith as my spiritual teacher. However, even though I am catholic i am very fussy about which church I will attend
and the priests and their homilies. Over the years I have tried different Churches since my ex husband grew up protestant but never found one I liked. Also Like so many have said their is not just one spiritual teacher in life there are many. This site has opened my eyes to different suggestions and wisdom as well.

Perhaps it is just because today’s quote was written by Joanna Macy that I mention her, but I have read Dr. Macy’s work and participated in a workshop that she facilitated.

Even though I am no longer a practicing Catholic, or even a Christian, I did know one priest when I was younger who was a valuable teacher.

I would also say that my maternal grandmother was–in her way–a spiritual teacher.

Being Catholic, Jesus is my Lifelong Spiritual traditional teacher. But then there are so many people that I have interacted with and so many spiritual writers that I have read and continue to read that help shape my journey….plus this site and all who write every day and answer the daily question..how thankful I am for all of you…as you also help me travel this journey of life.

Thích Nhất Hạnh – Thay as many people called him is one of the people who inspires me. He is a beautiful example of peace and a genuine leader of global peace. His work and life is truly a blessing to us all.
Thank you Thay for your books, your dharma talks, your peaceful ways and every way you have made this world a better place. I’m grateful for you teaching me the importance of our breath as an anchor to be able to help us let go of our mind world full of delusions, greed, hatred, violence, pride, and the list goes on. I’m grateful to have learned that using this precious lifetime to let go of these minds and to cleanse all of it is the way, truth and the life. So grateful to have light to show the way inside. As Thay says: “The way out, is in. “

There are a couple. Their ability to shine light where there was none is profound.

I attended a New Thought Church many years ago, and for the first time religion made sense to me. I had only been exposed to the traditional bible teachings, and this gave me a whole new way of looking at my life. The church is gone, but the teachings live on in me, and I am grateful to the minister who led that church and taught us to think metaphorically rather than literally.

Eknath Easwaran has been the most inspirational spiritual teacher for me, whom I have followed for years. I find his books ever so inspiring and there are tons of videos available too, so that even though he is no longer alive in the body, I can feel that I am being directed and taught by him. I also discovered the writings of Peace Pilgrim a few years ago, and consider her a teacher. I am so grateful for them and all spiritual teachers!!

Former counselors, dear friends including all who share on this site, many spiritual authors and definitely many poets. As far as the power of gratitude, I found my way to this site when I watched a video of a talk Br. David made in California several years ago. He explained that gratitude opens the door to opportunity. As I recall he pointed out that you can’t really give thanks or say ‘thank you’ without gratitude. My current teacher is my son. I learn something about life and about myself whenever I’m in his loving presence.

There are many! Children inspire me. Spiritual focused authors and artists as well as general everyday folks. I think the teacher shows up at the time needed for whatever the reason the lesson is to be learned.

I am informed by the words of many
spiritual teachers and I have learned
and continue to get so much from
Them. As for inspired, I get inspiration
from people that I know or have met
along the way, Including all of you here
that share your wisdom. There is one
person that I met during a crisis in my
life. He showed me how I could be
    with others. Caring, fearless, non
    judgmental, and helpful. His example
really changed my life. Even though
We’ve lost touch, he continues to be
    an inspiration.

I am energized by this question!! Thank you.
In addition to several already mentioned, Jesus and spiritual directors/companions over the years have been my most significant spiritual teachers.

Brother David ‘s “Grateful Day” video led me to this site. My first experience with the idea of living with gratitude was from an essay sent to me by Bryan Workman. He is a MD working for NorthStar Transitions and was conducting my medical intake for intensive out patient addiction therapy. I have since read and watched many things by many spiritual and philosophical folks. The sum of the total have been my inspiration and fueled my journey for inner peace.

A few come to mind from books I’ve read, such as Richard Rohr and Eckhart Tolle. There are so many more, though, who I’ve had the good fortune to know or encounter. The way in which those people lived their lives taught me love, patience, faith and kindness in a way that no book every could.

Thank you for this question. In my heart and my memories, has risen a litany of remembering so very many individuals throughout my life who have walked with me along my journey and changed my heart/life forever. My heart is full, and grateful.

I have many individuals who have inspired and supported me. My found practices of meditation, gratitude and love shared by people on this website and my renewed faith in God have been a game changer.
