Belonging is fed by my sense of connection: to myself, socially, and economically, politically , the natural word– — meditation in it’s various forms, a peaceful mind and body, a felt sense and perception of belonging kindness given and received, the perception of inclusion, perception of being visible and needs and wants being met, perception of having value or contributing value,
perception that my life and others lives matter to the whole, generosity given and received.
Group texting with my adult children who are 39, 38, and 36, about Arizona sports teams. We live far apart: Missoula, Montana; Boulder, Colorado; Tucson, Arizona. I live in Payson, Arizona. Our banter is light and fun. It brings me great joy.
From time to time, I will get a sense of belonging – like visiting a country town. The sense of community can be so strong and welcoming, that it has a sense of belonging even though I might only be visiting. The thought arises in those instances, “I could easily live here”. So, I think it is where there is a strong group or community perspective.
I have always felt I don’t belong, I don’t fit in this world. I am in the world but not of it, resonates with me.
I have had moments, time when I have felt that sense of belonging but they are & were short lived. I guess for me, my search for belonging to something else, to something higher has come from prayer, meditation, Mother Nature.
I know that I am not alone in feeling like I don’t belong, there are many of us struggling with this
feeling.
Happy Saturday All.✨
This past New Years Eve, Cheryl and I went to Denver to visit our son. We took public transportation to an immersive art exhibit. On the return, we went to where the busses pick up/drop off. Jeremy said this is the one. The doors were closed and the driver was having a smoke. When he was done he went straight into conversation with me and asked if I was lost. Now I was dressed in my usual fashion, hat, jeans, plaid snap collared shirt and my everyday boots. I told him although I may look out of “place” I knew where I was. I identify PKR
Hearing these three words welcome human being are you comfortable make yourself at home if you had enough to eat?
these questions where did I come from where am I going and how did I get here distinguishes humans from other living beings proof that I am eternal when I leave my gross body laying in bed hovering above in my subtle body and returning to my physical body, is when I wake up everyday
Smiles.
Hugs. (If they’re welcome ones, from people I know)
Shared history.
Punch lines or quotes that summon up an entire story from memory.
Eating together.
Common purpose.
Light of recognition and welcome in someone’s eyes.
Meetings that open with self-introductions that include something extra, not just name/title–some kind of fun or inspiring icebreaker.
I have always felt like an outsider and
not a true member of anything. This is
mostly just my internal dialogue.
When I am asked for my opinion or
when I am asked to help out in some way,
my sense of belonging and connectedness
is reinforced. Also, being recognized for
my efforts and my contribution, helps me
feel like I’m an integral part of something.
I must say, this group is such a nice way
to share my thoughts, contemplate,
and spend a few moments every day.
I’m grateful for everyone’s contributions.
I am still blown away by the shared wisdom.
I also struggle with feeling like an outsider. Hearing that someone else shares my struggle helps me to feel a bit of that sense of belonging. Thank you for sharing. ☺️
I am not a person with lots of confidence. There have been a few occasions in my life where I thought, “That person likes me.” Those occasions have meant a lot and I was grateful. My neighbor told me recently that I reminded her of her grandmother she loved.
Meditation, because it takes me to the place where I can feel that connection of all that is, all that we are, all that I am part of. It’s that universal connection that Joseph spoke about.
I’m struggling with the ‘deepens’ part of the question … hmmm maybe validation? belonging to what? family, friends, work, faith, community, Earth, self… many areas of belonging. Start with self first, which is a work in progress. Gratefulness, there ya go 🙂
The connectiveness of all things on our home earth in relation to the universe. I/we belong to the universe and the universe is me/us as all other forms of life from the microscopic to the blue whale are the universe. This miracle that is life.
The love and care of my family, neighbours, friends and carers. And this community with quotes and questions and your comments that remind me of these blessings ❤️

Feeling of Connection with someone. Someone once told me I was more of a one on one person and they were correct. I am not a social butterfly!

me too
Me, too, Emmaleah.
I struggle with a sense of invisibility. However, I have a sense that I am part of the WE. This deepens and consoles my sense of community.
me too
Kindness…given or received.
