We stayed on the sailboat last night and this morning went to church on Prudence Island in Narragansett Bay. The island only has a convenience store on it. It is a very unique place with mostly summer cottages but also year round homes. You have to take a ferry or boat to it. Well they couldn’t find a priest to do the mass so one of the Parishioner did the mass. Wow! He did a great job!. Was a very nice experience to be a part of it this morning.

I am going to greet a newborn, my nephew’s daughter, taking my mother with me, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s. Two sacred circumstances, one pleasant and joyful, the other harsh, but both embody the sacredness of life.

Expressing towards my father who might start to slowly say good bye to life that I love him, grateful for his having been with me and us as a family, no matter the difficulties. With deep reverence to life itself, no matter what it brought or will bring, doing the very best possible to serve life and all living beings.

LIke Kevin and Linda, I am managing back pain today. It is new in my world, and a challenge I find frustrating. Many desired, desirable and necessary activities are not possible, for now. New activities and possibilities have taken their place, for now.

Gratitude seems a wise approach. I suppose I can slow down and pay far greater attention to the miracles all around, like the rustling of trees outside my window, the sound of wind chimes and people working across the street, a coolish day, no wildfires nearby and enough water to live our daily tasks.

Thanks for this question and reflections. Wishing you a beautiful day all….

I am in some pain today after a fall a week ago. I fractured 2 ribs while hiking and all you can do is wait for them to heal, in about 6 weeks. I do have some pain meds from the doctor for which I am very grateful. Guess I just need to take the time to let my body heal. So hard for me–I always think I need to be doing!

I can try to get back to a more regular
    practice routine. Sometimes it feels
like a luxury to take the time for myself.
I can also try to see the world through
fresh eyes. Seeing the everyday beauty
    that surrounds me.

John Milton 17th Century Poet wrote “Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world.” The Encarta dictionary defines the noun reverence as respect felt or respect gained. This definition makes Milton’s quote even more profound for me. Milton is reminding me that an attitude of gratitude is like having 3D glasses. It broadens my experience of life and deepens my encounters with creation. It heightens all of my senses. It reminds me to take the “r” out of the word revolution and pray for the evolution of our species. It tells me to refuse to be tribal. In my small circles of influence, I need to choose to be the peace I seek–own my thoughts, feelings and actions. Live the question: Who am I? It’s much more important than “Who are they?” Ask myself consistently, What do I know for sure, anyway? Today is always the day…remembering that keeps me on my toes!

At the end of each day I look at 6 aspects of my life I attended to.: physical, cognitive, social, spiritual, emotional, and a delight. Then I write what I am thankful for. What I will do differently tonight is, after each entry say “and it is good.”

I am thankful for each and every day that I have on this earth. Taking better care of myself–every day will give me greater appreciation for the day I have been given…Not just taking my life and the day for granted…nothing is promised.

Maybe take moments to be aware of the air that I am breathing; being grateful for the rain that is gently watering the garden and filling up the resevoirs despite it making this day rather cool, (tempted to put the heating on!); how bright the flowers are under the grey sky and the way that my body is still keeping going!
