Ireland!! Besides that I feel at home living in southern Rhode Island near the Ocean, Narragansett Bay, many rivers and Lakes/ponds. Lots of wild life and nature trails in my area as well. Home to me is also being with close friends and family. Home is spending time on my home on water (Sailboat).

Seems like I truly feel at home every time I get out in nature and go for extended camping trips. Or when I am around certain people, which isn’t very many…

I grew up in a wealthy seaside town in southeastern Massachusetts- never really fitting in with kids who all came from families more well off than mine. After graduating college I got into the habit of moving to a different city every few years..always seeking something new and different, yet never really finding my place. Three years ago I moved to Northern California and for the first time in my life, I’ve found a place I don’t want to leave. Maybe this is what home feels like.

Woodford State Park in Southern Vermont is also a place that feels like home to me.

I have loved all the homes we have lived in, and always felt blessed to own them. Our current home is a quiet and safe haven among friendly neighbors, so I always feel safe and cared about.

I feel at home where I currently reside; an old plantation house built by my great grandfather. It was where I was raised and where I now raise my son. I also feel at home in the mountains and the river side. Thank you for all of your responses; such wonderful answers.

In the home I have shared with my husband for over twenty years. In my father and mother’s home, and the family home I grew up in. In the water and by the ocean. In and close to the natural world – on the water, in and by a forest, beside a river or lake …

As much as place is important to me,
feeling at home, comes and goes. .
I’ve felt at home while camping in the
desert, and I have felt at home, at a
    sidewalk cafe in France.
I have also felt out of the place and
uncomfortable lying in my own bed.
Now that I’m thinking about it, feeling at
home, is more a state of contentment than
a particular place. And that state of
contentment is fleeting, for me. This is
part of the work. Shedding my insecurities
and fears so I can feel at home anywhere.
Now that I am saying this, I am reminded
that growth and change rarely happens
when I am secure and content. Being off
kilter and out of my element, has been the
best way for me to grow and change. In fact,
when I was stripped of everything and all
control, is when I finally surrendered and
stopped resisting. This is the feeling that
    I will invite and welcome.
Thank you for this question and thank you
to all of you for contributing to this amazing
resource. The wisdom shared here, is
    Very helpful. 🙏

As a child we moved alot…I lived in many different apartments. My mother and father were superintendents of apartment houses. My father had a full time job and he and my Mom also cared for the apartment building. As a 5 year old…I remember my mother shoveling coal into a bug furnace in the apartment house we lived in…that was the heat source for about 40 apartments. As long as I had my mother; I was safe and home. I never had a room of my own until I was about 13. My Mom died when I was 14 – at 16 I moved in with my half brother and his young wife and four children….that was home…I was safe and truly had a family… We moved from NY to Nantucket Island to be with my sister in law’s Mom – her husband had passed away (my sil’s Dad)…and we all moved with her…oh my!! There were 10 of us in a small house…but what love and family times we shared…Home for sure. As the years passed I had apartments of my own…I rented houses.. all were home. I made each place mine. I lived in Somalia for almost a year…I had a cement room…I called it home….as there was love there. For the past 20 years…my home has been with my husband in rural W.V. This place I hope will be my final home. It is where the birds sing every day…right now the Thrush is singing his beautiful song, the turkeys trot down the road, the deer in our yard, the racoon wakes me (last night!!)….all the animals that have passed in the last 20 years are buried in our yard…this is home….where my heart is….where love surrounds me. My husband and I are also very grateful to have our motorhome that is home for several months a year…and our little cabin in the woods …that Peter built several years ago…it is simple and rustic…but ours and it is home. I am more than grateful for all the homes in my life. What a wonderful question…and a reason to remember to be grateful for all I have…. Thank you all for your reflections and for adding even more to my life. God Bless.

At my family’s homes and cottage through the years. At various beaches, also throughout the years. At the homes of my grandparents when growing up.

Maui, Hawaii, and some places in England. Of all the places I have visited, and there have been many, these two-especially near the water-are really where I feel at home and at peace.

Walking through Hanscom park in Omaha, Nebraska, my childhood park. Sitting in a rock niche in Colorado Springs, amongst the foothills in Colorado Springs, CO. In my own skin, while surrounded by others.

Above timberline. Along a mountain stream. Working with livestock. On the back of a horse. I saved the best for last in this short list, anywhere with my lovely wife Cheryl.

In the home I share with my husband and dogs. The first home I’ve ever owned after years of renting.
At the beach and in the ocean.
    My parents house.
    In my own skin 🙂
