Letting go of control / attachment to outcome. This will help me say an unconditional “yes” to my life right now. No longer “needing” people / situations / myself to be perfect to be content. Trying to be in control is a survival mechanism. It’s a fight or flight response, so I’m practicing compassion toward this part of myself. My body is trying to keep me safe. Instead of trying to force things that are out of my control (e.g. people, relationships, external factors) I can use that energy to focus on the things that are in my control (e.g. my responses, observing my behaviours / thought patterns, coming back into the present moment, self-care, self-soothing, learning new skills that excite me, being a friend to myself, etc.)
Visualization always helps me drop into the feeling of already being what/where I desire to be.
Visualization exercise to let go and trust:
Wherever you are right now, I kindly invite you to drop into the sensations that are present in your body. Take a few conscious breaths and just observe for a few minutes, what is present for you right now? How does it feel to just experience being in your body? Notice any thoughts and emotions that come up. Ask yourself some questions, get curious with yourself. Are these thoughts and emotions relevant to this moment? Are these thoughts and emotions familiar? No matter what you are experiencing, even if there is no clear answers right now, approach it with grace and validate how you feel. Leaving aside any judgment. This is all present for you and this is what you are currently experiencing. It is safe to experience whatever it means to be in your body. Maybe you visualize yourself in a safe space if you don’t feel safe right now. What does that safe space look like, smell like, feel like, where is it? Now, respectfully setting aside your previous experience, drop into that safe space. Experience the complete sense of trust and ease of being there. Like a weight lifted. You’re safe. How do you feel in that safe space? How does safety feel? Let that feeling soften all tension present in your body. I invite you to express gratitude to your minds ability to take you to this space. Savour each moment and allow yourself to smile. With compassion you meet what arises with this knowing that you can bring yourself back to safety when needed. Creating space for curiosity. In this state of curiosity, the pressure softens, you don’t need all of the answers right now. You know the answers will come to you. You feel a sense of being held and taken care of and from now on you look out for signs from the universe that this is true.

like I’m chasing it. When I practice gratitude,
I can connect with the present.
I’m generally in “yes” mode about my life these days. I have to think about whether that’s an unconditional “yes”, so I guess that’s the answer: thinking directly about what keeps it from being unconditional would help. Not much stands in the way, really–the nagging pain in my wrist, the desire to restore my yoga practice that hasn’t yet produced action, the stuff on the floor in my office I need to organize and put away. That’s so little in the grand scheme of things. This reminds me to feel gratitude yet again for having so much.
It helps me to stay in the moment, orienting to what is happening right now in front of me.
I don’t know who said it, but I’m reminded of the phrase, “Where focus goes, energy flows.”
To my physical life: get all the facts and be good to yourself.
To my spiritual life: continue your routine and know you are loved.
To my emotional life: remember everything is in evolution and accepting change is courageous and promotes growth.
To my social life: remembering each person is a temple of a loving creator.
To my cognitive life: breathe in all the beauty that awaits me right now and say “it is good.”

What helps me to utter an unconditional YES is to choose to live one day at a time—to say “YES” to life just as it is today. I don’t have to like it but I do find it necessary to accept it and be grateful for it. That keeps me out of the past and the future and frees me to be all I can be here and now–one day, one step at a time.
I have accepted my life exactly as it is “right now” as I have accepted all I have is right now. The future is continually become the present and then it immediately becomes the past. Today’s word for the day by John Muir and picture remined me of a quote from Alan Watts “….bees and flowers, where there are no flowers there are no bees, where there are no bees there are no flowers, they look very different, but they are essentially one organism”.
I am going to quote Eckhart Tolle, as I did yesterday. He says, “Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. How do you know this is the experience you need. Because this is the experience you are having at this moment “. May I be able to see what every experience is offering me and learn from it. While I am grateful for my life overall, and feel fortunate to have excellent health care available to me, I’d be shouting “Yes-Yes,” and more “Yes” if I could get the chronic pain levels that I live with down to a reasonable level. (Generally, I prefer not to discuss my A.S. in this space, but sometimes answering the Daily Question honestly requires it.)
Hello Linda, thanks for asking. A.S. stands for Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis in which my immune system mistakenly attacks the surface of my joints and tendons, (and sometimes other areas too) that causes inflammation and pain.
