She loves me so. This computer that enables me to do so much, see so much, read things I would never read and know things I would never know, in spite of the hours I spend on it that I shouldn’t. My home, on this little plot of land where I continue to learn to till, and care for the planet and our garden in new ways. It is our Eden. 10 Reply Maeve10 months agoMaeveSitting on the front porch. The pear and magnolia tree. The cloudless early morning sky. And a hawk that just now flew silently overhead. 7 Reply Holly in Ohio10 months agoHolly in OhioI’m very fortunate to have a lot of art in my home. Many of the paintings were done by my mother and father, which my husband and I “rescued” – long story I won’t go into, but I’m glad they are here safely.. I treasure as much the art in my home made by friends and my own children. Some of the art, like a lovely woodblock print beside me here of a barn and cows, I think I swapped with a friend for some of my own art, which she must have somewhere in her home. Some of the art, like a lovely woodblock print beside me here of a barn and cows, I think I swapped with a friend for some of my own art, which she must have somewhere in her home. I also have beside me a lovely Tansu chest, made by an artisan in town, which he gave me for a piece of fine lace I had knit which he gave to his wife for their anniversary. So many of the things here have lovely connections to people I know and care about. Art really doesn’t have to cost much. There is always a student artist around who would be only too happy to have someone buy a piece for a modest price, so they can buy their next canvas. Across from where I sit is a lovely dresser made of tiger maple that was lovingly restored by friends and given to us when my husband and kids emigrated. We were so poor then and needed furniture, but what they gave was truly an act of love. And there is also a lovely trundle bed in what was the boys’ room that was a gift from a different friend that year! We were blessed to have friends who cared and helped us get started in our new life together. There are a lot of books here. Readers out there know how much books become friends. I’m reading a book now called Handmade, by Melissa K. Norris, which is written by a homesteader about their everyday life and it includes wisdoms and recipes from Buttermilk Pie to Lemon Lime Soap, so it is fun to read and find things to make.I appreciate the question that helps me to see again what is always here, and to feel so lucky. ❤ Read More9 Reply Mica10 months agoMicaDear Holly, most of the art on my walls is still by family and friends. My son thought that meant it was bad art, but the gallery owner in town says that makes it art with meaning for me. She loved looking at the motley art collection on my wall. I have some art from her gallery, too now. 2 Reply Holly in Ohio10 months agoHolly in OhioLast Christmas two of my kids gave me their art, not knowing the other one was planning to. As if that weren’t surprise enough (to them as well)… the paintings are very similar in color scheme, and both landscapes! I have to keep them together… I don’t have it in me to hang them separately. And I love them because it is so personal, so heartfelt, and so revealing of their personalities. I look at them often and treasure them. 🙂 2 Reply Mica10 months agoMicaWhat fun, dear Holly! 2 Reply Patricia10 months agoPatriciaI loved the tour of your home. Again, wish we lived closer so I could hear your stories. 4 Reply Holly in Ohio10 months agoHolly in OhioYes, wouldn’t that be lovely! Such a happy dream! 🙂 I want to hear your stories, too! 1 Reply Dusty Su10 months agoDusty SuEvery night before I sleep I ask myself, what are the three things that were highlights from my day that make me thankful. Then I take my favorite one and break it down. Do this for 21 days, and it teaches you to search the day automatically, as you are living it, for the good, or the highlights. Then through the last question, to find meaning. I then send love to myself tomorrow, which I pick up with my coffee. I sleep well, and wake up well this way. 14 Reply sunnypatti10 months agosunnypattiOur home... something I never would have dreamed possible just a few years ago. We've been here almost a year and a half now, and I love our serene spot in the country. The dining table I am sitting at right now. Farm style, big sturdy wood, big enough for 8 to sit at, and a bench at the head (where I'm at right now). It was exactly what I wanted for our home when we moved in, and we were both grateful to find this set at a Habitat store for a price we couldn't believe! The coffee mug sitting next to me filled with delicious dark roast. I’m grateful for the coffee itself, the clean water to brew with, and the pick-me-up it’s giving me to get my day going!
