I think I have been doing this lately on weekends, sleeping a lot! or maybe it is winter hibernation lol. I do enjoy my walks in solitude with one of the dogs. Today it is snowing and I look forward to a little stroll in the beautiful falling snow!

Music. Making it, listening to it.
My husband is often a great comfort, but like many males, he wants to “fix” it when all I need is a “poor guy.”

My husband is my rock. He is quiet, sensitive and loves me unconditionally. He doesn’t judge me but just lets me talk things through when I am upset.

He has been through a lot suffering in his life, and he is able to just be with me (and others) who are going through things. I am grateful for him in so many ways.

Sometimes turning to dear friends as well as loved ones offering solace; sometimes staying with despair, sadness or unsolved unexpectedly brings up broader view and possible understanding, which allows for peace to arrive, like diving through a huge wave of despair while then allowing to arriving at the other side where all is well.

To my husband, to good friends, to my faith.

The ancient wisdom literature helps me make sense of the passage of life. While in one sense, much has changed over the millennia, in another, much is the same.

I usually reach out to someone by phone call or send a card. A warm shower will also bring solace. Looking at the pictures in my gallery soothes my soul. Going for a ride in nature or by the lake helps, too.

In my mind’s eye I will place myself in a treasured niche in the foothills of a small mountain peak in Cokorado Springs. Eyes closed I envision and see bright blue clouds, smell the cedar trees and smoke from fire places in nearby homes. I long to hike those hills as I always found peace in times of discomfort.

I turn to music, a well-loved book or movie, or something I know will make me laugh.

Sadly, I’ve learned to provide my own
solace. I think being in nature can help
sometimes. I also have friends that will
listen when I’m down, but I am only
learning now, how to reach out to them,
instead of pretending that everything is
okay. Also, reading has been helpful. The
right book at the right time, can be
    comforting.

I second Emmeleah. Knowing how to self-nurture and self-soothe is a great gift. What others can provide is just “extra.”

It’s not a sad thing to provide your own solace, Charlie. That’s an amazing skill that not all people possess. 😊

I end up turning to food. I am becoming more mindful of this and need to cultivate other practices that are soothing for the body and soul instead of eating.
