That’s true, Dani. Going after every desire we have will take an entire lifetime.

Don, as an introvert myself, I can totally resignate with this.

That is exactly what I was going to say, Linda. IMO, there is nothing more important.

Be kind, be compassionate – you don’t know what struggles the person next to you has.

Yes, Mary. It’s easy to judge without really understanding the deeper meaning behind what’s going on. There’s the saying with the word “Assume.” Assume makes an ass out of u and me. Often times, we need first hand experience to really know what’s going on with someone’s pain. At the end of the day, pain is pain.

I work for a transportation agency and out Work Zone Awareness campaign has advice that’s good for life, not only for when you’re approaching a work zone. I might use that:

    Slow down
    Be kind
    Pay attention
    Stay calm

    You may lose your house.
You may lose your loved ones.
    You may lose your job.
    You may lose your money.
    However, don’t lose yourself.

Well said, my Ngoc. Sacrifice is the name of the game. It would be great to have everything, but that will never be possible. This is where seeing beauty in discomfort comes in handy. As long as we survive, that’s an accomplishment. Everything will work itself out later on.

I can’t get past today’s quote from Elizabeth Lesser, “When you feel yourself breaking down, may you break open instead. May every experience in life be a door that opens your heart, expands your understanding, and leads you to freedom.”

I had another very challenging night and I apparently gave fear a seat at my table. I can’t negotiate with fear. I can only do my best to love and show compassion for myself when it breaks down the door. The biggest battles I face are always the battles within and I think that is probably true even for those in war torn countries.

Richard Rohr wrote a book titled “Everything Belongs.” I think that’s the message I would post today on a billboard for thousands to see.

I remember telling a dear friend years ago that my heart was broken and he said, “The heart is seldom broken. It’s usually just your ego.” So, I would add one word to Lesser’s quote: When you feel yourself breaking down, may you be WILLING to break open instead. May every experience in life be a door that opens your heart, expands your understanding, and leads you to freedom.”

Ah, yes, the power of willingness.

Richard Rohr’s meditation for today is called “A Place of Belonging” and features poetry from David Whyte: https://cac.org/daily-meditations/a-place-of-belonging/

      Thank you for this, Carol.
Of course, I also had the same
      thought about willingness.
      Sorry about your rough night.

Thank you for sharing the link, Carol. It led me back to David Whyte’s poetry. He lives in the same state I do; I discovered him early in the pandemic and had forgotten he does workshops. There’s a series of three Sundays coming up in May on creativity.
