Especially one that has been there forever and I simply haven’t known about it, despite its intimate connection with my daily life and supports my existence. The power grid, cellular networks, wifi, wireless chargers (how even does that work?). The thingies that make traffic lights work and the motor in my car, my fridge, even my ceiling fan (that has been on since it was installed 5 years ago). My central nervous system, the way my hair and nails keep...Anytime an underlying system is revealed. Especially one that has been there forever and I simply haven’t known about it, despite its intimate connection with my daily life and supports my existence. The power grid, cellular networks, wifi, wireless chargers (how even does that work?). The thingies that make traffic lights work and the motor in my car, my fridge, even my ceiling fan (that has been on since it was installed 5 years ago). My central nervous system, the way my hair and nails keep growing, the hidden depths of my psyche. The solar system, weather. All systems that somehow are regenerating right beneath the surface and available. The Divine creates numerous “ah ha! Look-see-feel” moments. For over forty years I had the great privilege of working directly with children and teens within my community who needed support and guidance during times of crisis. Just yesterday, while standing in line waiting for ice cream with one of our granddaughters, a woman standing behind me re-introduced herself to me and said while slipping off her sunglasses, “Hi Kevin, ...Perhaps more than anything else in the world, children, regardless of age, open me to a sense of wonder, promise, and hope. For over forty years I had the great privilege of working directly with children and teens within my community who needed support and guidance during times of crisis. Just yesterday, while standing in line waiting for ice cream with one of our granddaughters, a woman standing behind me re-introduced herself to me and said while slipping off her sunglasses, “Hi Kevin, you probably don’t remember me. I’m Jean, and these are my two boys,” whom she then introduced to me. This wonderful occurrence happens frequently to me, and when it does, I think, what treasure, what joy it is, that pulsing quest to somehow push past obstacles, fear, and hurt and find one’s tribe and place called home.
