Nini7 months agoNiniI can continue my path to greater understanding by practicing listening more, not listening to respond but listening to understand. 0 Reply 7 months agolistening to silence 0 Reply Malag7 months agoMalagOne one level, in contemplating that there is nothing really to understand. Meditation and mindfulness assist in perceiving some awareness of this. At a practical knowledge level (how do I do something, or not) , when I don’t understand something I read up on all the angles. I could talk more to people – I tend to rely on reading. 3 Reply 7 months agoHi Malag, good morning! can I ask you : why do you choose to read instead of exploring questions with other people / friends? that strategy is familiar to me, and I know why I choose to do so, but I also see the limitation: I stay in my own ‘field of thoughts’, so to say…. 1 Reply Malag7 months agoMalagHi Verena Probably habit and familiarity and practice and the mode of learning that works for me. Am open to people learning and sometimes opt for it. I have an introvert approach which also for me favours a more controlled environment. 3 Reply 7 months agoThanks for your answer 0 Reply Ian7 months agoIanBy listening and being less defensive when something is pointed out to me, even when the person pointing is me!! Taking time to read, challenge and understand each day. 3 Reply slawrence7 months agoslawrenceBy believing there is more to learn and understand. 2 Reply Mica7 months agoMicaBy continuing to work on my anti-racism. By becoming more informed about anti-racism issues and organizations. Thanks to the gratefulness team for today’s quote: As long as I’m alive, I will continue to try to understand more because the work of the heart is never done. I pray to be aware, present consient of my actions and their impact in other people. Each day is an oportunity to grow (old) and learn 2 Reply Cynthia7 months agoCynthiaI will continue to follow guided meditations, stay present and intentional, be aware of my surroundings and energy, and take care of myself and others. There is so much new wisdom online and in everything around me that there are endless opportunities for me to learn and grow. 3 Reply amacord7 months agoamacordMeditate, stay present; clear out the smog of too much news, too much social networking. Focus more on be-ing instead of Do-ing…Quiet is the incubator for reflection and growth. Be still, wait, detach, look, listen. 4 Reply Debra7 months agoDebraMy path is for greater self-awareness and self-love. . Through love of self comes love unconditionally of others — now known or unknown. I think therein lies the embrace of understanding. 3 Reply Carol7 months agoCarolTo understand, I must be willing to listen. The words “I hear you” can be more powerful than the words “I love you.” How can you love others if you refuse to hear them? The words “I hear you” can be more powerful than the words “I love you.” How can you love others if you refuse to hear them? The origins of the word, obedience, are rooted in the willingness to listen. To understand, I must be willing to see. My perspective is often limited by my personal and cultural blinders. A frequent phrase I used for years was “I only want what’s best.” Today, I realize that what I think is best is colored by my hopes, my fears, my personal dogma. Sometimes we only see what we seek; what we want to see. To understand, I must be willing to stand under, to own my thoughts, my feelings and my actions. We all have baggage and we have to own it before we can let it go. Understanding starts with the self. The saying “Know Thyself” is key. To understand, I must be willing to forgive. I need remind myself daily that life is for giving not for getting. I must ask myself daily. Are my thoughts and my actions life-giving or life-limiting? This question is so important because there is truly only One Life. We either lift it up or we shut it down with what we say and do. To understand is to live mindfully instead of full of mind. Today’s quote from Muhammad Ali sums it up: “As long as I’m alive, I will continue to try to understand more because the work of the heart is never done.” Read More7 Reply pkr7 months agopkrBy listening. This is clearly outlined in the New Testament so I say no more. Read More2 Reply Howie Geib7 months agoHowie GeibWhen I first moved to France I was not fluent, at all. Some afternoons I was just exhausted from that endless struggle to stay on the surface that I would just give up, allowing my head to rest and allow the conversations to recede to the sound of mumbling. It was not a pleasant feeling being lost as much as a relief feeling my laying back into the fact that I was, so lost.. Now I am back in the US and I rarely feel that kind of lost, perhaps it’s age, but I no longer feel driven to understand everything. I do, however, stay awake. Understanding a lot is great, but being lost, sometimes, makes it more real, and my absolute dependence on others is there, plain to see. Understanding that we are all unique, that there has, there is and there will only ever be one of us and that we have our own lives to live separate yet we are all connected with each other. Life is a journey to accept our good times and bad times and look at our experiences as lessons. 3 Reply Julian Daal Childers7 months agoJulian Daal ChildersBy asking questions and listening.
