Malag1 year agoMalagIt’s what makes me concerned about society, the people around me and the planet. At a big level one action is to ensure I vote. At a close level it helps when I can be kind and helpful. 4 Reply Ose1 year agoOseConnection with others inspires me to take responsibility for how we are with each other and the world we live in and see where and how I can give my part together with the people I am connected with to create the world we would like to live in and where peace and love prevails. I learned again that it always begins within oneself to open up to this and to honestly face the pain which might have hindered from doing so. 4 Reply Anna1 year agoAnnaOse, such a profound reflection. I try to focus on the little details now – thinking before speaking, simple living, very light footprints and deep gratitude. 6 Reply Lauryn1 year agoLaurynIt would inspire me to live in the present and appreciate each moment for what it is. This would also lead to a greater appreciation of individuality. 4 Reply Kristi1 year agoKristiJust recently I’ve realized many people just want to be seen. When I make a good effort to visit and connect I see so many people light up. This has taught me to greet everyone while being as friendly as possible. 7 Reply Holly in Ohio1 year agoHolly in OhioSo true, Kristi. Your post made me smile. 2 Reply SK1 year agoSKI appreciate my connections with the people from my past that I ‘ve reconnected with through Zoom. The Vintage 10; CKPC and some familiar faces; They have reignited a sense of passion in our gatherings. Our stories have changed and extended us in our faith journey; we continue to love and hold each other up. When I am on Zoom or on the phone with iris, they make me better through their appreciation of just me. 3 Reply Toni1 year agoToniA person I was once part of the same fellowship with called me yesterday. I left that fellowship for many reasons and he knows I am not part of it. He calls anyway, but not often. I was going to not pick up the phone but I didn’t like the coldness that was in my heart. He is a kind person with sever mental problems and several health problems so I picked up the phone. He told me of his upcoming surgery and the events that led up to it. I encouraged him to trust the outcome will be good and he may have a new lease on life if the results are positive. He agreed and told me about a friend that had the same surgery who is in less pain and is able to walk much better as a result. He was optimistic and so was I. The conversation turned toward the fellowship and some of the behaviors he’s been noticing lately. People are starting to get less diligent in mask wearing even though the group promotes it. Instead of giving in to judgment and anger, I encouraged him to speak up at the next meeting and that his input was valuable for the group as a whole. That was all I needed to say. That outcome is not up to me either. So caring about others enables me to think and speak with more compassion for by the grace of God goes I. Lord knows how defiant I can be. I can’t control how people behave and leaving the group was right for me but might not be for others. So I see that I can still be an influence when I choose to be kind and not judgmental when given the opportunity to speak. I’m glad I picked up the phone. He just needed a little encouragement and support. I felt better for the connection and prayed for his surgery to go well. I can’t fix anyone or control anything but I can bring my cares to God as they come up and then let go. That helps me and hopefully benefits those I pray for. Getting angry only hurts myself and those in the fire of it. So kindness is gentler and quieter and potentially more effective. I can offer that. WHAT MIGHT IT INSPIRE? During my breakthrough transformation (still in progress) I have been able to understand WHY I FEEL MISUNDERSTOOD & TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. I have been enlightened & obtain valuable insight on life, most people around me do not view life the same as I do nor do they know what I know. NOW I know, you CAN NOT be upset w/ someone who does NOT know what they do not know, its not their fault. This has influenced me when I communicating to others I have compassion while accepting because I have this knowledge I WILL be misunderstood to those “not knowing what they don’t know”, they can’t understand what they do not know. I may feel taken advantage of because “no one gives the way I do”, my former partners lacked the time & attention to give to the relationship but wanted me around [unfair]. This is not to say I am wiser this is to say I have a deeper spiritual connection & able to fulfill my purpose in life. This has inspired me to have a humble and humorous approach when connecting with others. I am also more responsible and take accountability for my experiences in life as well as more spread POSITIVITY when communicating/coaching others. Many people may become annoyed w/ someone who is enjoying life and happy HOWEVER if I let them in on the secret they will join the “Good Life” Club hahaha. The sound is dependent on each individual air molecule connected to others, and through this connection the deep powerful impact of sound is transmitted. Similar to air, I see each of us individuals across space and across time as being the vital medium through which that which is good or bad is transmitted. The difference is we have the capacity to affect what we emanate and pass on, although we cannot avoid passing on something. Through our work, through our family, through our lineage, through “the news”, through our daily interactions, through so much of what we experience for good and for bad, indeed we are strongly connected. In the news today is the plight of the Uyghurs, but many years ago, without knowing their name, I came across something and realized that the chance the cotton I was wearing would have been picked and processed by children or indentured or enslaved people was very high, even today. “China produces 22 per cent of the world’s cotton, of which 84 per cent comes from Xinjiang, according to a report by the Centre for Strategic and International Studies.” …and it isn’t just the Xinjiang province and the racial slavery there that is the issue. The issue is that when something is out of sight, and because we like things cheap, that we open the possibility for abuse. We need to shift our values, and buy more local, ethical, and quality items… not cheap and more and costly to the environment and peoples. I am not perfect, and I am wearing cotton at this moment and I don’t know where it came from. And cotton is only one of the issues. But today’s question… how would I “act differently in the world?” Quite steadily, a little at a time, a product at a time, going for the “low hanging fruit” first, I have been changing my actions for better impact on the world, for the planet but also for the people all over, whether out of sight or not. Consumption, right now, is the main way we are connected to everyone, whether they are in a small village in Mongolia that has no electricity, or an Uyghur camp, or along a polluted river in Indonesia, or when children are picking through trash in Africa to get the raw materials to make our cell phone. Don’t let the size of the problem stop you from making some small action today to help someone on the planet. Here are some thoughts: Buy Fair Trade organic coffee (I get mine at Aldi) Buy Fair Trade chocolate, tea (available in many locations and online, look for Fair Trade brands and be willing to spend more) Reduce cotton consumption, or buy used. Reduce plastic consumption and plastic trash. Regularly visit your farmer’s market or join a CSA or grow a vegetable garden. Buy more organic food if you can afford it. (Someone has to work with poisons if it is not organic). Buy less stuff, but buy QUALITY; many things you can buy once and make last a lifetime. If you buy less and buy quality, you can take the time to trace it. Try an item from an ethical brand of clothing, instead of cheap clothes from a box store. Try just one… instead of a couple or a few cheap ones. Wear each item of clothing more frequently – slow fashion, not fast fashion. Dispose of your waste with less impact; reduce, compost, recycle, make sure those hazardous items like CFLs, paint and batteries make it to an appropriate facility. Don’t buy things from the corrupt. Support human rights and food justice issues. Just start. Start small and build on it. Don’t indulge in guilt or overwhelm, just put a foot on the path or take one more little step. Each step will help some human, some brother or sister, somewhere. With love. There are some agricultural supplies that are harder for me to find or afford in other ways, and I don’t think I’ve ever returned those… but clothing is something I can avoid getting that way, and books I search for on Amazon but usually buy from small dealers or a local shop, unless I’m getting a digital book. As a follower of the teachings of Christ, I feel a responsibility to try to respond to my fellow humans with kindness and care. The silence of stillness allows for God, for others, and for a sense of connection. I desperately need to connect but not on my terms. Once I heard something that rocked my world. That the most influential thing we might do in our earthly life is likely something we are not aware of. A snippet of overheard conversation between you and a friend while waiting at a busy crosswalk in Manhattan on a summer weekday that somehow changed a stranger’s perception, standing next to you for a few seconds, shifting their lives forever. An earnest smile of gratitude bestowed earnestly on a salesperson who was internally dying from isolation, breaking their spell. For me they are paintings. Those small oils not larger than a postcard, sitting on a Nantucket gallery wall in a back corner: A marsh scene, with an old oak in the background, a storm gray sky with the grass golden with the sunlight from a waning afternoon. It gave me insight and strength at a crucial time in my life. So we are all, in a way. like that painter. Not knowing how other’s paths will cross our wake. That even though we may have our differences and disagreements, we also have our similarities and belong to each other. This makes me think about how to others, that if we do wrong to others that in fact we are also hurting ourselves. 4 Reply Ed Schulte1 year agoEd SchulteFrom the I CHING this morning......... it read ( see Below) what it will inspire is ""Te" pure potentiality in each individual".
