It just helps me come back to thinking about positive things instead of dwelling on negative things happening. It helps lift my mood when I am feeling a little down. Helps me to push myself to balance things out. I also enjoy reading everyone’s reflections and this site!

The question seems somewhat redundant, and so shall I be. My gratitude practice has enabled me to cope with my health and aging issues, and has even left me in a serene place.
I don’t know if anyone else is familiar with the writings of Rupert Sheldrake, scientist become spiritual, writes about gratitude as one of what he considers critical spiritual practices. He asks a good question: can you be too grateful? His answer is yes, if if prevents you from becoming outraged at the world’s messes.
Off topic, but I know there are a lot of pet lovers here. Sheldrake did a lot of work on animal intuition, especially dogs. One of his popular books is “How does your dog know y0u;re home?” We lived in a fifteenth floor NYC apartment, and our dog always knew when my husband came into the lobby. He would go to the apartment door and start wagging his tail.

Gratefulness is like a fuel for discernment, meaning it helps me with decisions. Good vs bad decisions are easy. But it is those decisions when there are two (or more) ‘good’ choices. Discernment comes into play to navigate those options.

I am not grateful so I realize how bad my attitude is but hey I value what I lack and no one can change that except my own fortune.

When misfortune knocks the psycho answers…

Wow is my soul rotten to the core thinking of my first reaction to this.

    Let me expand.

Not to sound like Scrooge nor The Grinch I would believe in sharing good fortune with the less fortunate entirely so. I value equality in theory as I admire Jacques Fresco, Roxanne Meadows and The Venus Project.

All I was trying to express is the spiritual blueprint I had somewhat “forced” on my plate angers me greatly at this point in my life…

    end rant

don’t mean to poison the well of positive thinking here just a little space to vent

That being said I need to step back will simply observe from a distance for God knows how long

Wow. Sounds like some self-loathing is going on here. You are God’s creation, worthy of love. Sorry, there are no exceptions.

Living gratefully helps me face and accept what is. It helps me separate what I’m thinking from what I’m feeling. It helps me to respond not react. It reminds me of the futility of turning a situation into a problem. It nurture seeds of hope and compassion in my over active mind!

    Practicing gratitude, provides an option.
An alternative to a negative focus. Its
    helping me achieve some balance.
    Luckily, I haven’t had a real test, but I
feel more resilient and capable of
    navigating life’s inevitable challenges.

So true that we can’t appreciate light without darkness.

I am grateful to be reflecting with you this morning. I spent the weekend in a retreat and I am ready to resume my routine. Gratefulness is an anchor which gently offer support when I am pulled left, right, up or down. Gratefulness is the eye of the chaotic storm. When I turn in to gratitude, love, contentment, joy, and silence I am afforded perspective and I am not longer in the tumult. Then, from the center, I can make skillful choices.

Living gratefully affirms that I am no longer a victim. There are ups and downs in life, and they too will pass and not last forever. Ups and Downs are each lessons that I have an opportunity to walk through with Grace and Integrity, asking the Spirit within me to lead me forward. As time passes, and if asked, I may have opportunities to share those experiences with others, passing on my experience, strength, and hope. Sometimes wisdom is acquired and I don’t make the same mistakes twice.

Living gratefully has helped me navigate life’s ups and downs by grounding me. This site, everyone’s reflections, various books that were mentioned here, all help give different perspectives. Remembering to stay focused on the Present. Breathe.

Recognizing everyday miracles and other good things amplifies the ups and reduces the depths of the downs. Gratitude helps me maintain an inner equilibrium, especially when times are tough.
