Then I thank God for the day and for the gift of life, my life in particular. Throughout each day I take note of the little gifts that come along and send up gratitude for them. 2 Reply TofuLove1 year agoTofuLoveIt’s easy, open my eyes and look around. Everything is reliant on others, from the electricity running through the lamp to making of the lamp itself … everyone around me is necessary for my survival to some extent. Everyone around me is necessary to some extent to my life and happiness, if that’s the case than yeah … there’s a lot to be grateful for. Maybe that’s a bit selfish but that’s how I view it. It’s like all these rich people living in mansions who treat others badly off that idea they have money so don’t need others, well … who built that mansion, who keeps the roads going, who brings in your groceries, who grows and transports your food, who made the clothes you wear, who buys the products you’ve sold … most humans lack the capacity to really understand, they need others so they live in a kind of psychological bubble. But I actually know that I am very, very reliant on others. We all move forward or we move back together. That’s the thing, people don’t think this is a team sport, life, they think this is all individual races being run … and it’s not, it’s a team effort. I give thanks before You, Eternal Sprit of Life, then I check my email for the word of the day. It keeps gratitude in mind. Then it is sporadic in noticing here and there. And expressing thanks with gratitude for the many kindnesses and help that come to me in any given day. And at the moment gratitude for being able to listen to this piece of classical music through the marvel of technology, the brilliance and dedication of performers and the genius of a centuries old composer. 4 Reply Ose1 year agoOseGratefulness is part of meditation and prayer (almost) every morning. I am grateful for the food available so freely and abundant, even in bio quality and more often, I am aware of the many people who might have contributed to it until it finally is on my plate and silently send my thanks to them. Water is something I am spending quite conscious since I had been experiencing what it means to almost count every drop in the desert I had the opportunity to travel to several times. I am grateful for it, for the life-giving rain, for the precious gift to be able to prepare my coffee every morning just by opening the tub and just receive fresh drinkable water, and when coffee or tea is ready, I bless it so that it may add blessings to the whole when rejoining the circle. A cup of coffee, a bagel for breakfast, the smile of a loved one, the purr of my cat , the beauty of the large oak by my driveway. Some days easier than others, but without this practice my life would not be as full. Thanks for reading this lengthy post. Additionally, the first question at our call-and-response bed time prayers with my daughter is this, “Did you have a good day?” If she responds, “yes,” I then say, “what do you say to God?” She responds, “Thank you.” If she responds, “no,” I then say, “what do you say to God?” She responds, “Thank you.” Some days a terrible awful and no good in whole or in part but at the end of each day as I pray with my daughter we together remind ourselves to be grateful for each day regardless of it’s joys or sorrows mingled. As I am getting older, I am noticing that the people who I know are no longer here. Two of my friends brothers ( who are several years older) are both going through cancer treatments at the same time and same city. I pray for them but at the same time, I realize how fortunate I am. My daily aches and pains and even the recent heart ablation I had are trivial compared to what all those who I know who have or are going through. As well during the pandemic I see how others lives have been torn financially and emotionally. I try to help and provide support and be strong for them.
