I do things, buy things live in a way that distracts my mind. What would happen if I didn’t distract? That’s the space that can lead me to a more simple life at least in that sense. Life is also richly complex but I don’t think it’s simplification from that richness that today’s question is exploring. 3 Reply Pollyanna Gladwell11 months agoPollyanna GladwellI can live more simply by continuing the self-imposed news fast that I have been on for the last 4 or 5 weeks. It has allowed me more time for painting, reading, and other uplifting activities where I am not being roused to cynicism, irascibility, exasperation or other negative emotions – my usual response to the news. Read More7 Reply Maryke11 months agoMarykeTo enjoy the simple pleasured life offers everyday. During the lock-down, we are home bound, so I enjoy that I have a safe and warm home, with everything I need. I once heard, if you sit still and take stock of your life now, would you be satisfied to life like that for the rest of your life? My answer is a definite YES. 4 Reply Hot Sauce11 months agoHot SauceIt’s difficult to live simply in our highly consumerist society; however, a first step I can take is learning how to grow my food from home. This way, I will not have to depend on stores and restaurants to make my food and can offer much of the wealth I have to the poor and to social justice organizations. 6 Reply Debra11 months agoDebraBe more awestruck in the moment. Enjoy my kitty. Enjoy my solitude. Enjoy contemplation. Enjoy learning. Love myself and allow life to unfold as it does and put fear aside to the best of my God-given abilities. 6 Reply Judi11 months agoJudiDuring Covid, life is definitely more simple in terms of pace. Other simplicities would involve letting go of more ‘things’. 5 Reply Ose11 months agoOseThe more I can let go of, the more simple live may become, I guess. So what is my heart beating for? To keep this is essential, and to let go of what is not necessary, as well as to identify and to let go of what has caused “weals” on my soul or kept part of me caught in fears or old habits of mind. Leading a life where the heart´s signals guide, gratefully open to life in its fullness, and mystery. Work in process… 4 Reply Debra11 months agoDebraOse~~~you’re a work in amazing progress living consciously. My highlight of the day is walking with my girlfriend before sunset. 4 Reply Michele11 months agoMicheleLearning from others living a more simple life helps. Not purchasing unnecessary items, being conscious of our environment (reducing plastic- by using cloth grocery bags for example. Enjoying nature. As always, remaining grateful each and every day. 6 Reply Rachel11 months agoRachelPerhaps apply Marie Kondo’s question— does this doing or consuming or being truly bring me joy? 4 Reply Katrina11 months agoKatrinaFirst I would need to decide what that means for me. I recently retired and my life’s calendar, clock and bank account changed dramatically. Then this pandemic hit and it was all hit again. So for those two reasons a lot of activities and “stuff” has already been cut from my life, as well as distancing from the people I love. Not sure more simple is where I want to go right now. But maybe more creative. 6 Reply 333USA11 months ago333USAI am discovering that the more present I am in the current moment, tge more aware I becone of all tge blessings in my life. 3 Reply Carla11 months agoCarlaI’m coming to know it’s not about “the stuff” or the clutter sprinkled through my house. It’s about how I am in relationship with it. If I have items others need can I detach & gift or give away? This applies to negative & judgmental thought patterns too. Growing in detachment will lead me to a simpler way of being. 4 Reply EJP11 months agoEJPLive every day with sincere gratitude. 3 Reply devy11 months agodevyTo live with what I have and nothing more ( currently experiencing that right now not being to do things such as going to the gym, going out to a restaurant for breakfast or shopping). I’ve become more aware of what material things I don’t need and realize that even though I am introverted, how much social interaction in plays.. 5 Reply 1 2 Next » My Private Gratitude Journal Write an entry in your private gratefulness journal Get Started This site is brought to you by A Network for Grateful Living, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
