I also want to stop staring at screen so much whether it be a computer or a phone. 2 Reply HelenH1 week agoHelenHBy staying off my smart phone when I’m around others. I need to attend to all the little things that make life worthwhile. 5 Reply Elizabeth M Jones1 week agoElizabeth M JonesBy focussing on my breath, practicing active listening and recognizing the other as gift. 3 Reply Doreen Nixon1 week agoDoreen NixonPractice mindfulness. 4 Reply pkr1 week agopkrBy setting an intention today to be present and gently reminding myself of my intention thru out the day…Happy Monday All..❤️ 3 Reply Hot Sauce1 week agoHot SauceOne thing I am working on right now is practicing the insight of Don Miguel Ruiz: “Be impeccable with your word.” This, of course, requires presence of mind because we are wont to casually resort to gossip, negativity, half-truths, and exaggerations when we are not mindful of our words. Working on the way I use my words both to others and to myself can help me improve my capacity to be present in the now. 5 Reply Tom1 week agoTomLike many have said, I can improve my capacity for presence by taking the time in meditation to cultivate awareness of what is happening now. When I bring this awareness into the world I am more likely to respond in a way that aligns with my values and values others. 3 Reply Anita1 week agoAnitaThrough prayer and meditation , I make contact with God. Listening for guidance . Allowing the veils to drop. Acceptance of what is. Opening my eyes and ears to all that’s around me. Giving thanks for all. Sharing my surplus with others. Remembering to breathe in fresh air and walk among the trees. 3 Reply Michele1 week agoMicheleGetting enough sleep, having a good morning cup of coffee, active listening, eye contact. 3 Reply Kevin1 week agoKevinWhen I was working, I had a little sign consisting of three words that hung by a single string from the ceiling. It slowly twirled in a spot where I could see it. The sign read, “Be Here Now.” The counselor, and guests, made good use of that sign. Presence, in my experience, is not about capacity. It is about being named and being welcome to take off its shoes. 4 Reply Kevin Carroll1 week agoKevin CarrollI can improve my capacity to be “present” by remembering that each moment is a “gift.” Yes, I know this is not an original concept, and I recognize that it’s a bit corny, but it’s so true. How often so we forget to recognize and appreciate the incredible gift of the present moment? 5 Reply randip1 week agorandipLove this, Kevin. We tend to forget that each minute to minute is not promised, just like tomorrow is never promised, so we have to live for the moments we’re here. 1 Reply Ed Schulte1 week agoEd SchulteThere are many practices to “improve my capacity” given in the various Spiritual Tradition …..all the truly effective ones,, achieve what the ‘word the day’ points at which is “stop seeking something more or better or different, and to turn your attention inward to the awake silence that you are ” The last 6 words are most important because it contains a weakness which new age spirituality promotes ( iow sells books etc ). The weakness is, although it leads up the the doorway of “awakening” it doesn’t step over the threshold. It is missing a most basic requirement vital in any attempts to improve “capacity” of awareness in the lower levels of consciousness. The requirement is ….FIRST AND FOREMOST…. before entering into any practice is the importance of knowing, beyond any doubt, that you ARE ALREADY fully Present! That state of Being-ness aka stillness/silence is THERE always. The thinker needs to stop trying to be presence and accept what is keeping it active and energized! The “”pearl worth more then all else” is already there”…as Joshua Emanuel reminded us …… “Be still and know that thou are God”., “I AM I, therefore I AM” ….and many more spiritual slogans all saying the one basic truth ,”You will know the truth and the Truth will set you free.” Read More4 Reply My Private Gratitude Journal Write an entry in your private gratefulness journal Get Started This site is brought to you by A Network for Grateful Living, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
