in realizing where ways of communication are inadequate and might have hurt others; to transform this in being aware and kind in thoughts, speech and deeds, honoring the different perspectives of my fellow people; in expressing my thanks to dear friends and you all here who kindly make me aware of possible still rough aspects and simply change this.

I loved everyone’s answers today! It’s so inspiring to me! I think my way of showing people that I honor them is vocalizing. I am learning we are all together on this “crazy” adventure called life (we are all trying to figure out things that happen to us and around us). I am also learning that people have different ways of expressing/perceiving their/other people’s feelings. So, vocalizing for me is becoming a chance to externalize my appreciation. I also see that this also brightens other people’s day (sometimes just one kind word can change a person’s day). However, I am dealing with the same effect when externalizing my thoughts in general (I notice it can hurt people when I do not filter my not-so-kind thoughts/feedback). Do you have any advice on how to deal with those situations? I want to keep the balance of being genuine (not having to filter what I think/feel) and compassionate. Happy Thanksgiving y’all!

I have learned to add “in my opinion” to some of the things I say and in many ways it can help.

I think the best way to show people that you love them no matter what. Give grace for those things that you may not totally agree with or understand and instead embrace the people for what you love about them. Treat everyone with respect and pray for them and help them as appropriate.

I think it’s simple but not easy…think “we” instead of “me.” Saw this Shamanic Prayer on Facebook this morning
    I release my partner
from the obligation to complete me.
    I release my parents
from the feeling they failed with me.
    I release my children
from the need to bring me pride,
so they can write their own paths
to the rhythm of their hearts.
    I don’t lack anything.
    I cherish my essence,
    my way of expressing it,
even if not everyone can understand me.
    I learn from all beings,
    all the time.
    I honor
    the divinity
    in me
    and you.

    I don’t think I show people that I honor
them often enough or with the intention
that I should. But, I definitely know how I
should honor them. By listening to them
with an open heart, by not judging them,
by showing them kindness, and by attempting
    to exercise my empathy.
On this day of giving thanks,
I would like to thank all of you for sharing
your wisdom with me and allowing me to
to be part of this community.

I show people that I honor them by carrying on traditions, sharing stories, cooking, traveling to favorite places. I also absolutely love the Mexican Holiday of Dia de Muertos – I love the creation of home altars to remember the dead, traditional dishes for the Day of the Dead, visiting graveyard/cemetery. I really enjoyed the movie Coco.
I’m reflecting on ‘honor’ by choosing loved ones who passed on. I’m sure you can honor the living too, but the deceased came first to my mind.
    Happy Thanksgiving Everyone. 🦃🍴🤎

Michele, I call on my ancestors regularly and give thanks for their strength. I have called on my ancestors and claimed their strength in times when anxiety strikes and they always come. Creation is one.

I tell people that I appreciate them. Loved ones, employees… I think it’s important that they know. I give them hugs, and I pay attention to them when they speak to me.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate! I am grateful we get to be off and go spend time with family and share a nice meal together.

I show honor to others by respecting their own perspectives even though I agree with them or not. Specifically, don’t try to persuade people to follow my opinions if they don’t ask me to share. When talking to someone, I must recognize that they need me for listening or advice, so I know how I can hold the conversation effectively.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

Being kind, gentle and greeting folks by name when I can and smiling at them. Last night at a mall in Tucson I was sitting on a bench waiting while my wife and son shopped a 4- or 5-year-old girl kept looking at me, I smiled at her, and she gave me a very cute and diminutive wave. I waved back and it was a tender connection with a stranger. Cheryl says it must be my hat! Have a nice Thanksgiving all!

Absolute utter respect. Eye contact. Listen full on. In a conversation, show interest, ask questions as appropriate. Thank them for their time, their responses, their input. Allow the gift of this moment, this blessing, to radiate into your day.

It’s truly a gift when you give someone your time for time is not something you can recoup!

Listening and being genuinely curious about another is the first way of honoring that comes to mind.
