Do I need to compete with myself to have it be best? Good enough is noticing the moment of the clock’s tick, hearing the dawn chorus of birds, feeling the cool air on my skin. And hopefully generally behaving in ways that help mitigate climate damage. 5 Reply Sara2 months agoSaraHow I care for and honor myself is how I can best love not only myself, but the world. I work on my inner world, so I can be my best for the outside world. 3 Reply Blossom2 months agoBlossomlive with joy 3 Reply KC2 months agoKCThe better I learn to love and care for myself, the better I am able to love the people and world around me. Sometimes I struggle with the idea that we should not love the world as we are made for greater things, but I am grateful for each day for this life I have been gifted. So how can I best love the world, by doing my best to take care of the earth and the people in it. Especially those places and people I have been given.. 3 Reply pkr2 months agopkrBy being kind. The broader community puzzle is much the same – asking daily how I can best fit with the needs of others that I touch during my day. The world puzzle – that is a huge puzzle and my “piece” seems very insignificant but I look for ways to contribute to our planet in positive ways that respects life. I think I best love the world when my “peace” fits smoothly into the other pieces around me in all those contexts. By respecting Mother Earth and contribute by doing my part looking after her. 5 Reply Barb C2 months agoBarb CSaying "the world" makes this an enormous question. The world is many, many pieces and parts encountered at small scale so I need to start with those "pieces". “Love is the will to extend one's self for the purpose of nurturing one's own or another's spiritual growth... Love is as love does. Love is an act of will -- namely, both an intention and an action. Will also implies choice. We do not have to love. We choose to love.” ― M. Love is an act of will — namely, both an intention and an action. Will also implies choice. We do not have to love. We choose to love.” ― M. Scott Peck This quote is included in All About Love by bell hooks, a book I read last year when the leader of an institute on dignity-infused community engagement (in the world of urban planning) recommended it. We can bring love to anything, including and especially those parts of it we may think of as separate from love, like our professional work.. Today I’ll think of how much I genuinely love my job, and also how I can infuse love into my actions and intentions so I work lovingly. My first reaction to the question was my belief that love is a decision and grace and mercy are its tools. I share a quote from Richard Rohr adapted from his book “Everything Belongs.”: “Ask yourself regularly, “What am I afraid of? Does it matter? Will it matter in the great scheme of things? Is it worth holding on to?” We have to ask whether it is fear that keeps us from loving. Grace will lead us into such fears and emptiness, and grace alone can...How can I best love the world? I share a quote from Richard Rohr adapted from his book “Everything Belongs.”: “Ask yourself regularly, “What am I afraid of? Does it matter? Will it matter in the great scheme of things? Is it worth holding on to?” We have to ask whether it is fear that keeps us from loving. Grace will lead us into such fears and emptiness, and grace alone can fill them, if we are willing to stay in the void. We mustn’t engineer an answer too quickly. We mustn’t get settled too fast. We all want to manufacture an answer to take away our anxiety and settle the dust. To stay in God’s hands, to trust, means that we usually have to let go of our attachments to feelings—which are going to pass away anyway. People of deep faith develop a high tolerance for ambiguity and come to recognize that it is only the small self that needs certitude or perfect order all the time.” Life is trust worthy and the River of Grace flows in and through us when we are willing.
