It allows us to have trust within someone 0 Reply Malag9 months agoMalagI can hear the birds and the ticking of the clock. I can see a snapshot of life in front of me. I can feel the breath flowing in my body. My taste and smell are expectant, preparing for the first cup of the day. To stop, notice and appreciate all of this helps me defuse from the mind’s treadmill of what’s wrong with that, what’s wrong with them or what’s wrong with me. 5 Reply Howie Geib9 months agoHowie GeibMalag I love the image of the mind’s treadmill!! The first cup in the early dawn is a sacred place! 0 Reply Lisa Alvarado9 months agoLisa AlvaradoIt ends up being an anchor, a way to feel inner peace. These are times of a lot of fear, uncertainty, and upheaval. Grateful, for the good hidden in the mirror though now obscured by hate. With love and compassion, lies and greed will be washed from the mirror, and reflect clearly, that goodness that resides within us. 3 Reply 9 months agovery sad, but wisdoms glow is there ?? 2 Reply Carol9 months agoCarolGood Morning, Please read the essay below… I found it on Facebook with an anonymous author. It speaks of the need to be grateful, to help one another and to give thanks for being alive. It truly brought the power of gratefulness home to me. Imagine you were born in 1900. When you’re 14, World War I begins and ends when you’re 18 with 22 million dead. Soon after a global pandemic, the Spanish Flu, appears, killing 50 million people. And you’re alive and 20 years old. When you’re 29 you survive the global economic crisis that started with the collapse of the New York Stock Exchange, causing inflation, unemployment and famine. When you’re 33 years old the nazis come to power. When you’re 39, World War II begins and ends when you’re 45 years old with a 60 million dead. In the Holocaust 6 million Jews die. When you’re 52, the Korean War begins. When you’re 64, the Vietnam War begins and ends when you’re 75. A child born in 1985 thinks his grandparents have no idea how difficult life is, but they have survived several wars and catastrophes. Today we have all the comforts in a new world, amid a new pandemic. But we complain because we need to wear masks. We complain because we must stay confined to our homes where we have food, electricity, running water, wifi, even Netflix! None of that existed back in the day. But humanity survived those circumstances and never lost their joy of living. A small change in our perspective can generate miracles. We should be thankful that we are alive. We should do everything we need to do to protect and help each other. Read More7 Reply Michele9 months agoMicheleThis is beautiful. Always grateful for the trees, the birds, all of nature. Specifically for the magnolia tree outside my window. For my curved wall and curved windows. For my new chair. For my sweet great-nephew, Jazz. For friends: Judith and Nelson especially, this week. 3 Reply Zenith9 months agoZenithGratefulness helps by focusing on the positive side of life, thus redirecting us away from negative, which always helps balance us. By spending more time in gratefulness, we improve everything even though immediate circumstances may not change as we may wish them to. Over time, life will respond affirmatively. 3 Reply Katrina9 months agoKatrinaGratefulness not only serves to help me put my life in perspective and to calm my soul. It also encourages me to encourage others to use it for those same purposes in their own lives. Life is just too hard and too challenging right now to live without the guide that gratitude can bring to us personally, as a nation and as a world family. 3 Reply 9 months agosince gratefulness is the appreciation of what is given to us – by grace! – in any given moment, it serves us in dealing with all kind of situations cheerfully. by the power of determination to allow gratefulness be the basic response to all kinds of situations: in difficult ones we find fresh ways to interpret challenges. on happy occasions we can celebrate their preciousness, highlighting them without holding on to them. I see the stimulation, with every breath, of gratitude as essential. Not merely as a coping mechanism, but in the Tonglen sense of filters. I, along with countless others, silently all over the world, the ‘us’ that meet here, all contribute to a force that can and does heal, relieve suffering and foment resolution to conflict. And I feel strongly that those of us who are aware of this are duty bound to practice it, especially in times such as these.
