I am fortunate because I have a roof over my head, I go to a expensive school, and board there to. I’m also fortunate because I can go on holidays often.

For now I am fortunate that the previous generations established a social safety net and unfortunate in that now it is currently being eroded.

Fortunate as in lucky? I don’t think I am. There are many things that show up; some seemingly happenstance, some unexpectedly, some barely noticed. But I put to down to Grace. That gentle guiding hand of love.

“The foundation of the quality of your life resides in how you engage with the present moment each day.” Shannon Ables

I am fortunate in many ways and am fortunate to realize how important it is to maintain a grateful and life-giving perspective on every day. The quote below from Rahul Kaushik says it well:

“I am at peace now. I’m not always happy. God no, I still get my mood swings. I still get sad. I almost shed tears in my weakest moments. But still, I am at peace in my life. I have learned to embrace the pain. I no more wait for everything to be fine. I smile for the little things. I expect less from others. And even when they hurt me, I take less time now to smile and move on. It’s okay. I have wasted too much time of my life to make others treat me rightly. I am done demanding more. I am done complaining. I am done running this stupid race to have more than others. It’s all so shallow. I know what I need to be happy. And I have that. I almost have all of it. I miss someone at times but it’s okay. I am with self. I will take care of myself. I am my own soulmate. I am not always sunshine but the darkness does not scare me anymore. I am both the day and the night. I am life. My soul is at peace. My smile is back. My heart is light. What else can I need?”

A song has always expressed it well for me. It has a copyright so I can’t copy it, but here is a link:

Apology for the less than inclusive but it is based on an old hymn from Germany.

I have a wonderful family. I have a lot of freedom, including living in a free country. I am generally able to get where I need to go, pay for my groceries, rental, health care, and other items that come up. I live near enough to my favorite lake to go there whenever I want (weather permitting). For age 71, I am doing pretty well health-wise. Very grateful.

I’m fortunate in so many marvelous ways: loving partner, access to nature everyday, a few educational degrees, close friends, loving pets, creative talents, nourishing circles of support including an affirming church and mediation groups. And so many more ways too!

When I look around where I live,
I see people that are much more
fortunate than me. And I also see
people much less fortunate than me.
And when I take a global and historical
Perspective, I can only come to the
conclusion that I am so fortunate
for the circumstances of my birth.
My old habit of comparing myself
    only to those more fortunate
was a real trap. Living with gratitude
for what I have been given, has allowed
me to have a more balanced and
    positive outlook.

The ways I have received good fortune are beyond count. To be here this moment is an absolute miracle. My wife and children are all doing well. I have a roof over my head with a garden. I am able to live very comfortably. At this moment I sit and sip warm coffee. I am so fortunate.

    I’m alive
    I have a home
    I have utilities
I have a close loving relationship with my children and family
    I have a job
    I have food
    I have a car
I have rights as a woman, sad there are other countries in this day and age where that is not true

There is not enough space here to list all the ways but a few are:
A warm place to live, transportation, enough food to eat, three siblings and two grown daughters who love me, a job, good medical care, and a new day stretched out before me.

I woke up again! I have a roof over my head, a sleeping soulmate in the bedroom, and a giant furry goofball barking outside at the neighbor’s cat. I am surrounded by love.
