By taking care of myself-washing my hands, staying away from crowded places, all the things we have been told in the past almost two years- I can model to others how to react in difficult situations. I am lucky because we have an Open Space very close where I can walk among the trees in Nature, and making sure in my schedule to get out there is very important to my mental health. Meditation is always a struggle for me, but something I can do as well. Just those two things can make a difference in myself and others I come in contact with… Read More2 Reply Ose5 months agoOseWhen meeting someone, to stay aware and with my heart open and to give whatever I may be able to offer, giving space for what is meant to be in that moment. Then things will have a chance to arrive at the “right” place, without me controlling it. 3 Reply Maggie5 months agoMaggieHonoring everyone’s opinions and safety. I know that if I am sick, I need to stay home just to make sure I do not infect anyone. Also, whether someone is vax or anti-vax, I want them to feel welcomed and not judge them for their own opinions. 6 Reply Blossom5 months agoBlossomI especially appreciated the word for the day “love wholeheartedly”. 2 Reply Anne Gunn5 months agoAnne GunnI’ve continued my practice of looking for what’s good in the world; the global health crisis hasn’t changed that, as far as I know. I’ve found in my more than seventy years on this planet that smiling, saying please and thank you consistently helps move people I see from a posture of uncertainty to a willingness to consider smiling back. It doesn’t always work, but nothing works consistently. At least I tried — and for now, it’s enough. 3 Reply Anna5 months agoAnnaIt was a time of deep pain and challenges for me, for my family, for my country. it is still a time of challenges. but also a time to overcome them. Then, times of creativity, quiet joy, kindness. Protecting me, taking my booster dose, always wearing my facial mask, for myself and for the sake of others. Keeping legal distance, the most difficult but necessary thing. 3 Reply Linda5 months agoLindaBe kind. Stay conscious. Act safely so we don’t put others at risk. 2 Reply Pollyanna Gladwell5 months agoPollyanna GladwellWonderful (as usual) to read all of the inspiring contributions. My absence from this amazing forum doesn’t mean I don’t read them frequently, but not contributing is my loss entirely. It is a special day for so many people, although not for many here in Ireland. I wish you all -contributors and staff - another day of Thanksgiving and Gratefulness. I can’t resist a quotation from Seneca which seems apt for today’s question: “Will I not walk in the footsteps of my predecessors?...Wonderful (as usual) to read all of the inspiring contributions. I wish you all -contributors and staff – another day of Thanksgiving and Gratefulness. I can’t resist a quotation from Seneca which seems apt for today’s question: “Will I not walk in the footsteps of my predecessors? I will indeed use the ancient road — but if I find another route that is more direct and has fewer ups and downs, I will stake out that one. Those who advanced these doctrines before us are not our masters but our guides. The truth lies open to all; it has not yet been taken over. Much is left also for those yet to come.” (Letters to Lucilius, XXXIII.11) Love to all, Pollyanna Read More3 Reply Michele5 months agoMicheleIt’s great to see you back Pollyanna! Sometimes the internal dialogue can stray into helplessness and a feeling of just giving up on myself, but they haven’t gone beyond a fleeting thought. The deeper message that emerges is to continue to be devoted and that is my fuel. The paradoxical tug-of-war for me is the deep knowing of all inclusiveness, Divine Love and Grace and the aloneness, cold community conversation and the abundance of selfishness that permeates my daily path. Attention, integrity and devotion is the salve to the open sore and when I feel my head dropping, be mindful to lift my gaze. It’s not over yet, not at all. 5 Reply Jenn5 months agoJennI practice self-compassion and I think that being kind to myself helps me extend kindness to others. I am finding that meditation helps me to rest in stillness which is helping me connect deeply with others. I think paying attention in this way is a healing force in the world! 4 Reply Skeeter5 months agoSkeeterBe present and kind and open to all without judgment. Give to strangers in need without a reason and love myself. 6 Reply Patricia5 months agoPatricia“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind … and love your neighbor as yourself.” 6 Reply Holly in Ohio5 months agoHolly in OhioThis is a complicated question. Even though vaccinated, I never stopped wearing a mask when I went into or store or other public place, even though now, in some places, I am one of only about 10% wearing a mask. My thought is, I want it to feel more comfortable to others to wear masks, whether or not they are vaccinated. We are very much “herd” people sometimes. Last year I grew and gave away much of my garden in regular, weekly, boxes to families I knew were struggling. I have not stopped working towards healing the planet from the climate crisis. It is important we all work towards lowering our footprint quickly… this has become urgent, with wildlife and human lives in the balance. In my circle of fellow homesteaders, I try to calm fears and draw people away from “the end is near” kind of survivalist thinking and behavior, and instead towards building community and serving humanity and the planet. And importantly, I speak up against prejudice and hate. I choose not to get embroiled in debates, I don’t get worked up, but on the other hand, when someone expresses an opinion they heard on Facebook as if it were fact, yes, I will say something, every time. It is the modern version of hearing someone make a racist joke, and sitting by and saying nothing. Nope. Not okay. “Silence is the voice of consent.” We need to speak up against false information, fear mongering, and scape goating.
