There are so many ways I connect with a sense of the sacred. Nature, children, babies, animals, the silence when I meditate, sharing with others. But one in particular happens when I facilitate a small group of people-about 10-to journey together on a topic. We have done different topics and the sacred has always been revealed. I think it is because after a few weeks together there is a trust that builds when the souls feel safe to come out and share. I have seen it happen, and it is…for lack of a better word, sacramental. So I guess connecting with others on a sacred level gives me a sense of the sacred, and awe….

Stillness in meditation; seeing a healthy child smiling as well as being with an ill child; being still in a chapel; a walk in nature, especially in the forests; sometimes when being together with dear friends; perceiving the sun rise; this day as it begins so peacefully. It is still dark outside, a thin layer of snow covering all, dimming the noises, fresh cold air entering my room when opening the windows, the river greeting this new day and me also with its rippling sound of flowing water.

I didn’t start this year with a full tank. The end of 2021 saw me running on aged adrenaline fumes. As I looked up to greet 2022, a fast hurricane was on the horizon and coming my way. It has delivered its full fury. It is in the pause, the deep breath, the moment of silence, a brief pause for reflection. That which is ever present and closer to me than anything else.

Grief connects me to the sense of sacred human (other sentient beings) life and the overall mystery of all of our lives. The also includes the sacredness of words, actions and creations that are helpful and wise or the pain of those that are not helpful and hurtful.

My first response would be love,
    and then the natural world,
but if I think about it more deeply,
    I have faith
that there is sacredness in everything,
    everything,
both the ugly and the beautiful,
as difficult as it is sometimes.

“When we acknowledge that all life is sacred and that each act is an act of choice and therefore sacred, then life is a sacred dance lived consciously each moment. When we live at this level, we participate in the creation of a better world.”
    –Scout Cloud Lee

The ‘power of choice’ keeps me aware of the sacredness of my life and yours. It helps me be present to the moment and act instead of react to what life is offering me today. I love listening to a hymn called “Holy Ground. It reminds that my perspective matters, that what I say and do matters. For me, the fact that we all have ‘free will’ means we have the whole world in our hands. My role, your role, may be small but it matters.

The hymn is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vF3ysOvODWY

Carol, “On Holy Ground” is one of my most favorite hymns… indeed all ground is holy. Thank you for this reminder about this hymn.
      Blessings to you, my friend.

For me…being in a physically sacred place makes me feel so close to the Spirit. A quiet empty Church…a time for contemplation…a place that gives me joy. One of my most favorite places in the world…is the old church at Cap de Meadeline, (Shrine of Our Lady of the Cape) in Trois Riviers, Quebec, Ca. The shrine is magical….it sits on Holy Ground. I may never get there again…but when I want a happy place- my mind visitis it.
I also can find and connect to the Spirit with a walk in the woods or along the beach. Once again..what a wonderful group we have here. Thank you.

Lighting a candle and sitting looking at it connects me to the sacred. Something grounding and comfortingly steady about a candle, for me.

Listening to music , and at this time of year I have am listening to medieval Christmas music and the “Nine lessons and carols “ as sung by the boys’ choir at Kings College in England .
