my attention is drawn to the garbage and recycling trucks going back and forth in the street outside my window. My first inclination: they are loud and disruptive. In the spirit of gratitude though, I’m reminded of how young children love to watch the mechanics of these trucks–awed by their ability to lift the huge bins and dump the contents without human intervention, and then-more or less gently-set the bins back down in place.
