From a tiny seed, a giant is born. The massive conifers of the pacific northwest began life hundreds, maybe thousands, of years ago. Starting life as tender seedlings that escaped infancy in tact and grew into sky scrapers. Receiving just the right amount of water, sun, protection and nutrients. These trees truly are a world wonder. Although the last 200 hundred plus years have seen most of the mature trees taken down for lumber, they still forge on. My hope is that forests continue to be replanted and protected so that generations from now will also be able to marvel at these giants. It is humbling to be in the presence of such ancient life, life that looks down on us the way we look down on ants.
