Gratefulness
… and remember how as a child your arms could rise and your palms turn out to bless the world. (Tobar Phadraic, David Whyte)
Carpe’ diem.
Gatherings of the family to celebrate special events and live ordinary days.
Listening with compassion. Asking good questions, as a situation may indicate, so that a person may find their way in a storm. Affirming the journey. During these strange times, I could learn, or remember, to do the same for myself.
Lake Michigan in Holland/West Michigan. The lake itself is not always peaceful – quite riled up this past summer – but it holds my heart in any season.
I don’t know about “feeling” generous. I may feel something like “one with” or a shared humanity, and feel moved to share whatever I am able – which I may stretch as much as possible. There is no cap on the opportunities, especially in these times, and may include financial support, usually through an organization; kindness of heart or action as seems would be helpful – or simply because each of us is human and we all need one another.
First and foremost, my family, for so many reasons, and these days for helping to keep me sane and grounded. For good and wise friends. For essential/front line workers, weary, most likely, yet committed in their dedication. For those who keep me informed without prejudice. And many others.
Patience and kindness, affirmation and a sense of humor all around.
I am thankful for the essential workers as the pandemic roars out of control here. I am thankful for those who work the food banks, those who donate food and funds to keep them going. The needs are staggering. I am grateful for all who helped to raise and nurture me: parents and grandparents, teachers and mentors, inspiring writers, doctors who have helped me keep living. I am grateful for my daughters and their families. They are my heart. I am grateful for the Gratefulness team for providin...

And I am grateful for those who speak truth to power.
Hope.
Thank you, Cheryle. May such discoveries fill your heart, as well.
Welcome, Janet! Hope you are safe and well in the UK during these challenging pandemic days.
Thank you so much for these words of Isaiah this morning. They are blessing and reminder that I/we are not alone in this world.
Welcome, Craig! I find the stories, discoveries and experiences of others shared here to be enlightening and encouraging along the path. Your words today have brought me that, so thank you.
Bravo to you for your photo exhibit, Pam!
Thank you, Annie, for your encouraging words. May you and yours be well. And thank you for the joyful artwork!
Dear Ose, I am so very sorry for your loss. I have known over all the time we have both been here just how much your chosen mother has meant to you and been essential in your life, and deep in your heart. You have experienced much loss in this year, dear friend. Know that you are encircled by many hearts of caring and words of prayer. I looked up this Rembrandt painting … how beautiful, and a work that speaks beautifully of your beloved chosen mother. I hold you in prayer, and at the same time am thinking you carry within you many of her same gifts. Grace and peace to you.
Thank you for wise words and helpful imagery, Howie. I have copied those last 3 lines into my journal.
Also, Howie, what they choose to do with this wealth, vs. what they could choose!
Beautifully said, dear Ose. Blessings to you, my friend.
“Joy in the little things” … this, for me, is the way of these times for me. I expect that will continue, even beyond pandemic life.
