In order to distinguish the good from the bad, we have to have different feelings towards them. Being grateful allows us to reflect on the bad events we’ve been through and recycle them to show us what we do have. One example would be that I recently went through a very abusive relationship that recently ended rather brutally. This was a bad event. But gratitude has allowed me to identify that it was positive- I am grateful that I am no longer in danger, I’m grateful that the Universe removed something in my life that wasn’t benefiting me and I’m grateful for the strength I am going to have from now till the future. This then helps me to attract this into my life. Living gratefully helps me see that nothing is permanent and no matter how bleak a situation is, there is always something positive you can take away from it, and there is always a better situation waiting.
