Is pain a friend?
We do spend time together –
to remind me I’m alive?
Soft birdsong, just noticed!
Sun pressing through clouds;
Mug is empty, the day begins.
Butterscotch ear tip;
Green eyes gleam over proud pink nose.
Maggie wants no hugs today, just a lap.
A soft breeze, sun on upturned face,
Hunger pangs arrive.
Sausage, egg, cheese – geez Louise!
Calm descends again.
Branches blowing, cars roll by.
Sun gleams off metal rims.
Cool air flowing in, a distant humming;
Morning rain, torrential.
Lilly stalk standing tall amid aging blooms,
One with the gulls,
bright sun warming a cold day.
Just sitting, a soft breeze blows.
A quiet respite for us all.
Rain quiets the street;
soothing birdsong arises
unbidden, easing some pains.
brief whiff of coffee
a bracing nectar awaits
the first sip aahhh morning!
