Gratitude Lounge Welcome! We are glad you are here. This is an open space where everyone belongs, and everyone is welcome. Please introduce yourself as you feel comfortable and join in sharing your experience of grateful living. To get started you might reflect upon questions such as these: What am I grateful for? What is grateful living inspiring me to do? What are some blessings in my life (including ones in disguise)? How am I being supported right now? What connects me to wonder, awe, or a sense of the sacred? You are welcome to include images and links for videos to illustrate your reflections. Holly in Ohio2 months agoHolly in OhioThank you, Isabelle. How are you? 0 Reply Holly in Ohio2 months agoHolly in OhioYou make a very good point, "when energy is used, some of it is always lost as heat..." This is true whether the energy is electrical, biological, or chemical. And yes about LED lights, too, I just wonder about quantitatively if the early flowers melt the snow because of the heat they release, or if it is simply that the snow comes in contact with their cells, which are filled with glucose solution, and perhaps the glucose solution is released, perhaps through stomata. I really have no idea! ...You make a very good point, “when energy is used, some of it is always lost as heat…” This is true whether the energy is electrical, biological, or chemical. I really have no idea! I can say that the heat from LED lights is noticeable on my hydroponics unit, and the amount of heat from a light bulb is reciprocal to its energy efficiency. As LEDs use roughly half the energy as fluorescent, I’m guessing it releases about half the heat…. but I’ve never looked it up. The Carly Simon song is going through my head, “Don’t it always seem to be, that you don’t know what you got till it’s gone.” Oh well. Time to find the next adventure. 🙄 2 Reply Holly in Ohio2 months agoHolly in OhioYEs! I’m trying to get back into practice. Everything got “off” in the last weeks. At present, I am more “going through the motions,” as I did in the beginning. But practice works – it is sort of like playing an instrument. The more you practice regularly, the better the playing gets. 3 Reply Holly in Ohio2 months agoHolly in OhioThank you, Anna. I think my friends are giving up farming, which saddens me. I will find a place though it may be small this year, and I was hoping to can foods again because I’ve used up most of what I had. The home grown, home canned foods taste so much better, I will miss that if I have to use store bought this year. I know things will work out somehow, it just is sad at the moment. 4 Reply Holly in Ohio2 months agoHolly in OhioThank you for seeing that it is a shock, I am kind of stunned. Even if I were not farming there but they were... that would be okay. I'm ...adjusting... ! It will be okay, it just doesn't feel okay now, and I'm hoping my friends won't be moving out of the area. That is so interesting about your goldfinches! No, we are not aware of any change in their tastes. We do have sunflowers here but they seem to prefer the thistle. My neighbor let a thistle plant grow gigantic last year. My husband even looked up to see if the thistle broke the record for size. It was close! And it was fun to see the finches come to it and balance on it. Read More4 Reply « Previous 1 … 6 7 New to Practice? Visit the Practice Space for more opportunities and insights.
