    When I taught first grade many years ago, one of my students was a refugee from Cambodia. She loved that song and asked to sing it every morning. I imagined the horrors she and her family had witnessed and how much joy and comfort the words of that song brought her. There were times I became teary-eyed watching her sing that song, a radiant smile on her face. I can still hear her today, “…You’ll never know dear, how much I love you. Please don’t take my sunshine away.”

    Good morning Pilgrim, Thank you for your suggestions. My oldest granddaughter is Alexa, my sunshine girls daughter… she is 13 years old. Next my son’s three… Samantha who is 10, her sister Katy is 7 and their baby sister River is 3 weeks old.

    That does sound like the perfect gift, Annie! How old are your granddaughters? Could be a beaded bracelet or a kit to make one, or to make anything – age dependent! A book, specially selected? A lava lamp? Fuzzy socks? I just saw some Valentine’s options in the Target ad. Special time with grandma?
