Hello Diane! Kirtan is a form of prayer in which usually Sanskrit mantras are sung that focus people’s attention on gratefulness and/or God. Some festivals at this little Hindi ashram (which sort of doubles as this small town’s community center of all faiths) start at 1:08 pm and go to the the next day at 1:08 pm or 108 prayers are sung. Sometimes a large group of people stay the whole time and others come and go, but in all cases the energy is lovely, and the temple staff prepare and offer food to the people praying to keep the energy going all night long. I guess a version of a prayer-a-thon! : ) There are many practices at the temple that are unlike those of a Christian faith but I have found that wherever there is a common focus on love of God or spirit, ” wherever two or more are gathered in My name”, I feel most at home and I am grateful to feel very blessed. Much love in connecting with kindred spirits, Diane, it is nice we can find heartfelt connections online with people around the world now! love and blessings, eme
Thank you Manda for your post and individual greetings : ) Much joy and many blessings on the journey to you and your furry and human companions along the way!
